Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Hi
Someone suggested we try St Martin Chalets as it is quiet, with good skiing
Any one know if it is any good for us?
one person is happiest on blues (but can ski reds)
another one is fine on reds
everyone else is black / red / off piste
thanks for your help

Howdy

You'll have about 4 or 5 areas to ski on the one pass.

Katschberg has about 70kms on both sides of the valley and over the top, down the other side to St Margerethen. There is a fantastic red and a black from the top of Aineck down to Katschberg and some nice cruisey reds and blues on the other side from Aineck down to St Margerethen. One red which is really good, goes all the way from the top to bottom and is called the "A1".

There is also Grosseck Spiereck with about 40km of runs which is decent too, but can be a bit exposed on windy days and Obertauern which has 100km of runs is well worth a couple of days. It's about 20-30mins away by car and has something for all.

Fanningberg is also on the same pass, but haven't skied there..

Hello,

I skied the area a couple of years back. I would say that each area on the pass has a good mix of runs for your group, but a couple more blacks wouldn't go a miss! Grosseck/Speireck probably performs best on this front. Don't miss Fanningberg - it was our favourite, a fun mix of runs all ending at the same point, and very quiet. Obertauern was our least favourite - crowded and commercial. Its good points include excellent lift system, but we tend to like quiet, rural skiing so it wasn't our thing. We based ourselves in Mauterndorf which is a lovely village, sort of in the middle of things. We didn't have a car, and found buses to every resort excellent, although (well timed) changes are often necessary.
