Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Charging multiple devices at home?

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Anyone found a neat solution to charging multiple devices and avoid multiple cables/plugs sat across various work tops?

We have 4 mobile phones and two tablets, not to mention the DS and cameras that need charging.

Often end up with 2 chargers plugged into the wall in the kitchen, and was wondering if there were neater solutions out there?

Seen a few wireless conductive charging solutions but they seem to require specialised sleeves or backs adding to the device, which is a PITA in my view.

Cheers,

Greg

kitenski, I use Power Monkey Explorer for all my charging now. One lead and a bag full of adapters for just about every device. There is also an accumulator that I can use to charge one device while another is connect to the power. Even has a wee solar panel that can also be used to charge devices &/or the accumulator. Great for travelling as well! Toofy Grin

Samerberg Sue, presumably you can only charge one device at a time though??

kitenski, have you tried/looked at the Juice Jack? This is it - we have the 2nd one pictured http://www.juicejack.com/ - it goes on every holiday now and charges hand-held game things such as DS, as well as 4 different mobile phones including iPhone and Blackberry. Runs off one lead into a 3 pin plug, which can be plugged into a 2 pin adapter in Europe - haven't tried it in the US. Cost around £25 a couple of years ago, although the one on this link is more and has P & P on top. Worth a bit of an internet trawl if it does what you need?

I bought a USB lead from a poundshop in Romford that had an ipod, small usb, large usb, slim usb and other bits and bobs. Seems to charge multiple items pretty neatly too!

Samerberg Sue, I use the PM explorer and it only charges one device at a time. I have found it fantastic when cycle touring, and wilderness canoeing especially if I use my iPhone as a gps which hammers the battery.

kitenski, 2 at a time using the power lead and the accumulator. Usually put the phones onto the accumulator and iPad/iPad on the power lead. When not in use the accumulator gets charged on the power cord. Still very compact and far less spaghetti chaos. But I'm on my own and charge things as they need it not when a lead is free! Not sure I understand the problem. Is it because you don't have enough plug sockets to charge each device simultaneously? I don't think I've ever needed to charge my phone and camera at the same time, and in fairness I rattle around in a 3-bed house by myself so no shortage of plug sockets. Wouldn't a 4-way adaptor do the trick?

kitenski, Skross do a dual usb plug of which we have 3 now, doesn't charge an iPad as fast as the oem charger but allows one to get phone and iPad filled overnight.

Works a treat, only 15 quid, and comes with interchangeable mains plugs so you can use it on hols.

Everything charges from USB. Cameras have enough spare charged batteries to last. Have a bog standard Nokia as well as a smartphone. Smartphone stays home and the Nokia will hold a charge for a week easily. Separate chargers get packed but rarely used. Only time I can really foresee this being an issue is camping then you're stuck with solar and good logistics.

Not totally relevant but a couple of years ago I had a wee brainwave.
I bought a few cheap 4 way adapters from B and Q, chopped the plugs off and fitted standard euro plugs.
We take them on holiday and it has certainly reduced the number of euro/uk adapters we need to take and because there are never enough it's cut down on the squabbling when someone unplugs someone else's Iphone to plug in their hair dryer.

We seem to have dozens of the things hanging around at any one time. Travelling is just as bad, and we end up with a bag full of cables, chargers and other peripherals.

When I travel I take the chargers and an adapter and a standard 4 or 6 way plug bank. Cheap and it works.

I never take the chargers on holiday, I just charge everything before I go. But in fairness I never go on holiday for more than a week.

USB off the (on anyway/daily) computer(s) for me, meaning also i can travel with just 2 cables (without plugs) to do iPad/iphone/blackberry/wireless headphones/etc

though i do like the look of the multi-USB port plugs

wonder how many phones have been left in black cabs for Yoda to rob since the olympics?
