Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Self drive from Rotterdam

Hi
Any experience of which resorts are most easily accessed by driving from Rotterdam? Getting ferry from Hull 30th March.
Needs to be a resort with childcare available/nursery.

Thank you

Zoetermeer is only 20minutes

Landgraaf is a further drive to the south.

Helps to say where you are heading - France, Switzerland, Austria. While some parts of the route are the the same but then depending on where you are aiming for the ways can be very different according to the time of the season as well as the day of the week you are travelling.

Plenty of resorts within driving distance, like Samerberg Sue says, depends on where you're thinking of heading. I use the Hull Rotterdam route when I drive down to the Arlberg, takes me about 10 hours from driving off the ferry in the morning to pulling up in resort in the evening with several stops (toilet/fuel/food).

Thanks for the info. We would probably head to France so any further suggestions would be appreciated. May try and go mid week to avoid weekend traffic but depends on accomodation change over day.

ntweedle, most French change over days are pretty firmly Sat/Sat but increasingly there are UK owners offering more flexibility. However, what are you after? Big area? Bit of character? Tough skiing or family oriented?

Somewhere around Innsbruck might be easier to reach.

When are you planning to travel? On some weekends it would be pretty grim.

We like resorts with wide open pistes with good off piste areas for snowboarding. Large area preferred, character not essential. 18 month old who will be going to ESF ski/creche. We are going over the Easter hols 30th March onwards but can be flexible over a 2 week period. Open to suggestions outside of France if they are easier to access.
Thank you

Engelberg in Switzerland maybe fits the bill and it is a mere 490 miles from Rotterdam. Places like the 3V in France are more like 660.

Austria is probably the cheapest option and easiest access (all free Autobahns and a 10 day Vignette to get there c.9 hours) Tolls into France will cost you around €100 each way. Engleberg (Bode!) is beautiful but not many wide open pistes, more of an intermediate resort with massive off-piste for the upper end skier though. I'd head for the resorts around the Ski Amadee (Alpendorf, Flachau, Wagrain etc), Masses to ski and plenty of options for accomodation and child care.

Always seems to be lots of Dutch in Austria. Would make it fairly easier for navigation purposes......
