I am trying to buy some ski gloves by ebay. Is there a definitative means of determining glove size in deciding whether Large or XL?

In hospital we have different sized sterile gloves, going from 1 - 8 1/2, just like shoes, but I'm not sure how it translates.

Kramer, "8 1/2" translates roughly as, "Just bend over please,"..."Yeeeooooowwwww!" whereas a "1" probably only merits a gentle whimper?

There are glove sizes - I'm a size 7. That normally corresponds to small but can also be a medium depending on the make. I always think gloves are something you have to try on - there are such differences in length of finger etc. Don't think that's really helped you though

Which brings us neatly to the Ricky Gervais prostate support ad that's been banned inside the 'watershed'
I've got hands like hot shovels so I'm always in L or XL

I only buy them if they fit well and for that I have to try them on, so for me its hands on in the shop

there is a way of guaging the size - did see it some time ago an the ebay site, but I agree that the best way is to try them on for size

I am interpreting this as an oblique reference to the holders of those clinical posts, and their physical characteristics

This question has puzzled me for years. I think my hands are relatively small (compared with my father's for instance, which were large) but I always find that the "Large" size is the smallest that is comfortable. How do people with big hands find gloves that fit?

Alan Craggs, I take a size 8 1/2 glove, which is pretty big, my hands are bigger than most peoples, I need to have XXL gloves to get them to fit. Last year I met a guy whose hands were massive even compared to mine, but as he was a minder/debt collector/hired muscle to the chap who I was having dinner with, I was too busy being polite to ask about his haberdashery needs.

hibernia, what you found DOES work for Hestra sizing.
(Me:size 10 Hestra/L Reusch,Marker,Spyder, Outdoor Research/XL Auclair, Swany {except the fingers are too long})

You know it makes sense.

hibernia, the sizing system used for surgical gloves is different to that one, maximum size 9. Doesn't seem to correspond to the other sizes in your link, I'm not sure why they use a different system.

hibernia, phew - glad you found that link. I was beginning to think my size 7 hands must be huuge if Kramer is an 8.5 and he has large hands.

well I've just tried hibernia's link and came out at 8 1/2. Looking at a pair of "Level" mitts I bought in Tignes last season - guess what - 8 1/2! and 8 1/2 is designated "large" on the scale, which is what many of the labels in my gloves say, but no way would I ever have said that I had "large" hands.

hibernia sadly that measurement utter bollox if your finger length is disproportional to palm width (aka me). Suspect gloves are as per most women's clothing items - unlikely to fit unless you were the designer's model.....

When I worked in a sterile production unit, making up chemotherapy , my gloves were size 6. I now have extra small Ladies Ami Chaud.
