At long last doing our trip to Champoluc next year 21 Feb to 2 March,
But due to odd dates only finding accommodation for 3 families in either Albergo Punta Zerbion in Corbet,
or Hotel Genzianella in St Jaques.
Both are apparently short bus ride to slopes, just wondering if anyone has been to either one, and can maybe help us make a choice?
Advice appreciated.

lizski, A short bus ride?
Hmmm. Depends what you mean.
I don't suppose they're actually that long a bus ride, but St Jacques has nothing else in it (well, maybe one bar) and I don't think there's much else in Corbet.
Corbet-Champoluc lift probably 25 minutes, maybe a little less, but I don't think the buses are very frequent. St Jacques-Frachey not a bad option but again, I suspect buses less frequent than to make it super convenient.
Can't imagine you can't find more Champoluc central options?

Sorry if this is obvious but have you tried Ski2? www.ski-2.com
They are specialists in Champoluc and are happy to work with "odd dates"

Unfortunately our first few days overlap with british school holidays, and therefore struggeling to find anything central for whole group.
Zerbion seems to have own bus to slopes, but did not realize it was so far... will need to rethink a bit.
Thanks for the perspective.

St. Jacques is covered by the Ayas valley ski bus, which runs a loop covering from Antagnod, through Champoluc, up to St. Jacques. So, the frequency of buses is the same anywhere in the loop.

under a new name, I think it runs about every 10 minutes in the winter, so not too bad. I don't remember ever waiting too long when I've skied there.

cerebralvortex, never used it, but never been too obstructed by it in the car so wouldn't know. Still, for me, walking distance to the centre of town (although our house in Champoluc is not) is pretty important.

sanman, thanks, and they were my first try, but also the ones who said that British schoolholidays a problem, and suggested further afield.
under a new name, as our kids still all below age 11, not too bad to stay home in evenings, but will definately mail the hotels personally to see if we can find something walking distance from town, as it would be preferred option.
Any agencies doing self catering rentals that you possibly know of? Might try that too.

If you haven't yet tried either of these hotels in Champoluc yet they are normally flexible if you call them directly. Have stayed in both and would recommend them. The Champoluc is right by the lifts. The Castor is a 10 min walk away but the food is a bit better.

Ski2 are good but it will be much cheaper to book directly with the hotels. If you can't get anything in Champoluc then Frachey would be best alternative. Or you could try Gressoney which is in the next valley. Better to ski over to Champoluc than sit on a bus for 30 mins.

lizski, A group of us stayed in Champolouc in January of this year with Echo Ski and stayed in the Hotel La Rouja. I don't think that any of us wouldn't hesitate to recommend either Ruth at Echo Ski or the Hotel

After all the local expert advice worried a bit about being out of town, so sent some more mails,
The Relais des Glaciers hotel can take our group , we have to move rooms once, but can stay the odd days.
The hotel is a bit expensive, but the facilities look great. If no objections from anyone, will probably confirm that.
The Breithorn also offered, but we would probably have to sell one of the kids to stay there!
Thanks again everyone

lizski, The relais looks lovely although we haven't ever been in it. Very central. Go for it. You are probably a 10 minute walk from the Crest bubble, but that's not such an issue. You are a two minute walk from the Churen pizzeria, although it's under new management and we're not quite convinced the pizzas are as optimised.

Relais is only a ten minute walk through the village (gently uphill) to the lifts with some nice bars for the journey back. There are lockers at the lift station which would be worth it if you've got kids in the party. The Relais seems a good hotel and the food is meant to be excellent.

lizski, We travelled with Echo Travel last year. They were great and the inclusive tour/lesson with Georgio was brilliant! Worth a try to see if they've got something to offer?

Well, just to give some feedback
we booked flights to Turin, and accommodation in Relais des Glaciers hotel.
Echo Travel looks great, but so far planned already - will keep them in mind for next time.
I suppose Georgio not separately for hire? Thinking of taking a guide one day there - anyone skied from Cervinia to St Jacques/Champoluc?
If so, what level of skiing is necessary?
The Relais des Glaciers stay includes free use of skidepot at lifts, so will book skihire there - seems to be sorted for now.
Now just the long wait for the snowing to start...

lizski, I think you can contact the bureau des guides online.
Cervinia to Champoluc certainly possible, I have never done but mrs U has. Logistics might be interesting.
