Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Courses and resort choice in USA/Canada

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Hello everybody

I'm thinking of heading over to Canada / USA in late February / early March, hopefully for two weeks. I'd like to do at least a week of some sort of all terrain course, to try and improve my general technique and also get to grips with off piste if conditions allow. My off piste is rubbish, probably down to fundamental flaws with my basic technique, and because of this I'm not overly keen on trees! But I guess they're unavoidable (excuse the pun) in North America. At the moment I'm looking at resorts around Utah, Colorado and BC.

As I'll be travelling alone I'm thinking of looking for hostel accommodation, so I'll not be spending every night sat in a motel watching telly. Has anyone got suggestions for courses / resorts / places to stay - any or all of the above?

Cheers

PJ

Interior BC has a reasonably active hostel scene as does Banff and Lake Louise. Not so sure about the US given that motels are so cheap can mean hostelling opportunitis are more limited.

Hi eversolazy

This is the best thing you can do. Contact section8 who are based in Canada Vancouver (small friendly company) . Tobin there is highly qualified for all of this. They are great and they know there stuff.

Here is an article he wrote for us http://www.snowjobz.co.uk/working-as-a-ski-instructor.html

Give him a call on http://www.section8ski.com/contact-us/

he is a really good friend and really knows the mountain as he lives there and is part of the tourist board.

This is not an advert for him or us as all our articles are free. But Reading what you are looking for he is your best bet. Also he can sponsor you you if you wish to work in Canada for the following season.

Just let him know snow jobz pointed you in his direction he will know who it was. If you want me to get him to call I can ... he is best to get in touch with after 6 pm

good luck

Thanks all, that's given me a lot to look into.

Courses are a lot more expensive than their european equivalents aren't they! How do they compare to the all terrain coursed in the alps?

I hadn't really considered Whistler, but it's definitely high on the list now.

Cheers
