Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

There's a lot more to Ed not being in the team than lack of funding. Things were starting to happen in the training camp in Chile in September 2011! Ask the other team members and his coach.
The other 2 members of the GB speed team (TJ & Dougie) are having to pay for everything this season. BSS have not funded them at all which means they are going to have to find another £25k each on top of their own personal expenses of £20K. They are racing at World cup/World champs and trying to qualify for the Olympics. Yet BSS are funding the Junior girls coach in the tech events, none of these girls have proved themselves and are all outside the top 500 in the world and will not make the GB qualification for the next Olympics by a country mile.

would someone explain to me how that works??? then again if you have to pay your chief exec a healthy salary there wont be anything left for the athletes!!

plugboy I have no idea what your first sentence means either!! could be read either way. care to shed some light?

my suggestion is that we club together and hire the guy who is in charge of the speed skating as he manged to get a lot of funding for a sport that performed worse than skiing!!!! just a thought.......Smile

iskar, BSS lost £200k in sponsorship from British Land and have not managed as yet to replace it.
Also in their new programme to improve Alpine results they are only using the little money they have to fund the Tech teams (GS & Slalom) They are not funding any of the Speed athletes (Downhill & Super G) including Chemmy.

Ed reluctantly went to Chile last September and trained and did 3 races there. He did not do any of the fitness testing throughout the summer dispite being the athletes representative on the BSS board.
He then did very little training in Europe before going out to North America to train before Christmas but did not race. He then did not turn up after the Xmas/New year break with the rest of the team. No word to the coaches, BSS or other team members as to why or where he was? He did not race/train for the rest of the season.
Only Ed knows why he didn't join the team. They had a great coach and a good link up with the USA Europa Cup/World Cup team. I don't think it was lack of funding as he bought a £6k motorbike!
His FIS points have gone up a lot because he did not race and he is not injured. This is why he is not in the GB team.

We are trying to get a major sponsor for the GB Men's Speed team of TJ & Dougie (GB No1 & No2) to the tune of at least £50k.
They have a great coach and a full programme with the USA Team again but even better this year using their facility at Copper Mtn.

Sounds like Ed has no confidence in the BSS regime, and based on the above I can hardly blame him..........think I'd be on my new £6k motorbike into the sunset too and waving my proverbial middle finger, looking to pastures new in the US or similar where they appreciate and support talent.

It's sad that people with genuine sports talent in this country are not supported better, not decrying people like Chris Hoy, Jessica Ennis, Mo Farrah et al, our "big Olympian hopes" but they receive major revenues and are professionals...........their plight is light-years away from those emerging in non-spotlight sports.

Good luck Ed, whatever you are up to! wink

Markymark29, What makes you think that the US is better ? There are several blogs complaining that many of their WC athletes have to pay all of their costs while the administrators get large salaries.

rjs, I dont know that it is any better in the U.S, thats why I put "or similar"theres just more places to ply your trade I guess. Thats the difficilty breaking into winter sports the world over, the likes of Shaun White, Lindsey Vonn etc are sat at the wealthy tip of a very big iceberg, there's loads that cant even get onto its slippery slope despite true talent, or if they do get on they soon slide off due to lack of ongoing funding whilst the ones at the top get seemingly endless promo/ sponsorsip deals. Shame there's not a more even share of funding, but yes the well paid administrators are a burden to the sport.

and he is not injured.

That's why, as I understand it, he is having an operation on his ankle soon only delayed so he could carry the Torch.
