Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

advice on group [15] early [1st to 4th Dec 05] ski trip

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
This is an annual company holiday - perk of the job type thing, we call it "wipeout" which gives you an idea what its like however I have been lumbered with these dates 1st to 4th Dec 05 -I would love to make this a skiiing trip but is there anywhere worth going to this early that is reasonably fast to travel too...

I have been told Val d Isere or Zermatt are snow sure but is any of the lift infrastructure running at this time and more importantly are the bars open ??

Any advice would be greatfully received.

ScottDougall, welcome to snowheads, you're likely to find that Tgnes will be open usually opens by about the 2nd -3rd week of Nov. How much of the Espace Killy is open is anybody's guess.

ScottDougall, Welcome to snowheads. Don't know about Val d'Isere In Zermatt the main winter season starts in November. Over the weekend all the lifts will be running, during the week some may be closed.
Checking the timetable:
All Rothorn lifts are open (http://bergbahnen.zermatt.ch/e/fahrplan/winter/rothorn.html)
With Gornegrat area, everything but the Stockhorn lifts will be open
http://bergbahnen.zermatt.ch/e/fahrplan/winter/gornergrat.html
And on the Matterhorn area, everything will be open at the weekensd, although Schwarzee will only be accessible over the weeknds.

According to http://www.valdisere.com/gb/ the season starts on 26 Nov 2005 in Val d'Isere.
In http://www.valdisere.com/gb/activite/evenement/evenement.php it says 'Nov 26th/27th “First Tracks” – Opening week-end'.

ScottDougall,

Welcome

I would be looking at Tignes or somewhere with a glacier open. LDA possibly. Try to limit the damage of poor/no snow at that time of the season.

Tignes travel would be Geneva, Lyon or Chambery and coach transfer, or TGV probably via Paris on one of the legsto BSM and coach the Tignes. BSM to Tignes that way would be the shortest transfer
