Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Check Your Risk Lawinen (Avalanche) Freeride Film

Flicking through the TV channels just now, looking for something inspiring to watch, I stumbled on a programme about freeriding, the risks of avalanches and what the Pro Freeriders try to do to minimise the risks. I was annoyed that I only found it half way through the programme so a spot of Googling later I found out what it was called "Check Your Risk", who had made it "YDreamProduction" and, even better, it's free to download here: http://www.check-your-risk.at/check-your-risk.at/Check_Your_Risk.html and a trailer for it on Youtube is here:

Unfortunately, it only seems to be in German, though I think there are a few German speakers on Snowheads who might appreciate it. And for those who don't understand the words there are some amazing shots of avalanches... Oh yeah, and some pretty good skiers too Very Happy

SaraJ, good skiing and interesting shots of avalanches, but actually not much practical info other than have your Pieps, shovel, probe and preferably ABS with you and read the avalanche bulletin. No real mention of techniques for identifying risky slopes vs less risky ones, not even really basic stuff like 'avoid north facing slopes that are > X% steep when the avvy warning level is at 3 in your region'
