Poster: A snowHead
|
I have just had a go at fitting my first pair of bindings, as i didn't really want to take the to a shop and pay set up prices and the skis were pre drilled.
The fitting went well, However on one ski the wood glue i used has bubbled up and gone solid meaning that the base plate is not quite flush to the ski. Is this a problem? i have torgued the screws up as tight as i can by hand, but am a bit concerned about the gap.
What do people think will it be OK or should i take it off, scrape off the glue and remount the binding
any advice would be greatly appreciated
Cheers
Andy

andy_ing01, I can't see how the glue bubbling up could cause a gap. The glue is applied to the holes and then when the binding is screwed down it will squeeze out any excess glue and thus sealing it against water ingress. I suspect that one of the drilled holes wasn't deep enough and so left a gap and the glue would then solidify and perhaps look like it was causing a gap.
I think it needs sorting but I'm no expert, try a PM to Spyderjon if he doesn't spot your post and he will give you an expert answer.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

andy_ing01, I agree with geepee that the glue shouldn't have caused the problem. Could be a number of things: hole not deep enough; debris in hole; or top sheet eruption, which is very common.
Who'd predrilled the skis? Do the skis have a metal top sheet? If they do then they could have been predrilled with a 3.6mm bit instead of a 4.1mm.
Yes, you do need to remount them.
BTW, the screws should not be over tightened. The correct torque is 4.5Nm which isn't that tight. With a 6" no.3 Pozi driver tighten the screws until they stop & then add an eighth to a quarter turn 'nip'. If you really lean on the driver you can tighten more than that but it's too much.
As well as the din release setting are you ok with the setting the forward pressure adjustment on the heel bindings?

Many thanks for the quick responses, SpyderJon i have just PM you to ask your advice, before seeing your post on here. The skis are a white dot directors were drilled by white dot themselves.
In regards to re mounting them can i use the same drilled holes or is their a greater chance of them ripping if i did this?.
Thanks for the advice to over tightening, when i remount them i shall certainly take that on board .
kind regards
Andy

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

andy_ing01, You should be fine with the existing holes. Probably some top sheet eruption which is common on Whitedots (as with many other skis) which you should dress off flush with a sharp chisel.
