Poster: A snowHead

Hi can anyone reccomend an italain resort with gentle runs, looking to go away for a week on 5 January 2013, so will need a resort that's snowsure. Only been skiing once last year so wife and I are still finding our ski feet, so would prefer long gentle runs. Looking to spend around £2000 for the two of us with lift pass, flights, hotel and a few lessons. Not really looking for wild apres thing the 18-30 days are behind us, but don't fancy a dead and empty resort. Any suggestions please.

You had plenty of replies in your other thread. Quite a few of the replies were Italian resorts. Not sure why you are repeating your question in a new thread. Just look at your original thread and you will see plenty of Italian resorts: Cervinia, Passo Tonale, Corvara etc

You might look at Livigno - high and plenty of easy runs behind the main town. There are some fairly easy progressor slopes too. Passo Tonale might suit too - again quite high and plenty of easy stuff...even if it is a bit samey.

The Sella Ronda (Corvora etc) area is spectacular with lots of gentle runs but it isn't snow-sure early in the season (the season just ended was an example where you might have come unstuck). Unfortunately the Dolomites sometimes miss snow which falls in the rest of the Alps. If you had been going a bit later it might have been the perfect place for you. (see my current thread in the Piste section to see the scenery)

Another recommendation for Livigno.
We had a few good holidays there when we were learning, as a couple and then with young children.
The good points are - it is high so pretty snowsure, reasonably picturesque for a high altitude resort, a good choice of nightlife (restaurants and bars), not that expensive to eat out (or at least it wasn't years ago). You will find a good selection of easy slopes for beginners and intermediates and the lift pass, lessons and equipment hire are reasonably cheap. You can also visit Bormio or even St Moritz for an easy day trip. Davos and Klosters aren't that far away if you fancy going upmarket for a day.
The bad points were - the transfer time to resort from the airport, it took about 5 hours from Zurich. The resort is spread out and you may have to catch a bus from your accommodation to the ski school meeting place. It can also be absolutely bloody freezing (especially one of the chair lifts up the mountain but I can't remember the name of it), we used to go in January and it was -22 deg C one evening in resort.

And love to help out and answer questions and of course, read each other's snow reports.

Me too - Livigno is a good place for gentler slopes. It's only about 3.5 hours from Milan/Bergamo usually with a stop off half way. If you choose your accommodation (and ski school) wisely you don't have to worry about the busses which is good, 'cos some of those drivers are mad!

Frosty the Snowman, I didnt see much challenging stuff when I ski'd into it from La Rosiere a couple of years ago, maybe I missed something? Very nice and pretty, and good food at the place we stopped for lunch, liked it but not very challenging, mostly blues/ reds cruising I thought.

Chris Wood741,
I've looked at it every which way but loose as Mrs. M. loves the uphill skiing there, but I would be amazed if you can do it with only a 3 hour transfer. If it works, let me know!!!
