Poster: A snowHead
|
Hi
Booked flights to Geneva and all ready to book accom in La Tania for 5th -12th Jan 2013 BUT have now read on another thread
Quote: |
forget Courcheval then for those dates! The Russians will be paying top dollar because that is the Eastern Orthodox Christmas/New Year period.
|
We were hoping to have quiet slopes this week so should we look at going somewhere else? Do the slopes in Courcheval get very busy this week? or is it just the shops and restaurants that will be heaving (and we will not be anywhere near them!)?
Any advice much appreciated. Thanks

You'll be fine. There are more than enough pistes for everyone in the 3V.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

No russians in La Tania. It's not bling enough.

They all stay in 1850 and to be honest they don't do that much skiing so you should be fine.
On the flip side there is a massive firework display on Russian new year which is well worth getting the bus up to 1850 for
Enjoy

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

Hi
I wouldn't worry at all. The ski region in the 3 vallees is immense. This season we had the best snowfall for many a year and from what I've been told ski companies had their best years for a while with regard to numbers, so this season, there were a lot of people in resorts.
The good thing about the 3 vallees are the number of slopes and ski lifts, you'll never queue for more than 2 minutes, even during Feb half term when all the UK schools and Parisians are on holiday!
La Tania is a great resort, perfect base to ski the entire range. Make sure you head to the ski lodge for shot night!!!
You've picked a great resort with the largest ski region in the world, no need to worry about the Russian New Year.

went to Courchevel same week last year and it was practically empty, so don't panic!

zockel, Don't worry - as said above, the Russians tend to stay in 1850 and really don't ski a great deal.....La Tania is sufficiently removed from it all that it won't be a problem - enjoy

Like the others have said above, not a problem. In general the first week after the new year is one of the quietest.

Agree with all previous posters. The Russians may be important to Courchevel 1850's 5 star hotels during the first part of January but they represent a drop in the ocean in terms of numbers of skiers (about 60K Russian skiers in the whole of France vs 8 millions French skiers) - especially for such big area as 3 Vallées. They don't tend to stay in La Tania either.
