OK I'm going to take the plunge and buy the second pair of my 2 ski quiver.
I have B2s for off-piste/soft/deep/slush days and I want a pair for hard icy days. I ski fairly aggressively but would get tired if I had to push all day to get the best out my skis, hence these aren't really hardcore.
Actually the choice is also largely determined by price, as it is only these 2 in this category that I can get at a good price. But which one? I think I've read just about all there is to read about them. Has anyone here skied both?
Oh, forgot to mention, I've skied both but only in a big fridge and not quite in the right lengths for me.

I skied both at the test recently at Cas, and would go for the 5*, (But only just and might be slightly biased as i already own a pair).

I've owned 5*'s & they are great skis. However I've also demoed the RX8 a few times & if I were making this choice I'd go for the Fischers.

Another vote for the RX8's here too.
I thought they were quite easy to load up and make varying turn shapes at will, even though I only weigh 140lbs. That was on a pair of 165's. A very easy ski to live with I reckon. My mate who is ~182lbs was on the 175's felt the same about them too.
FWIW I had a chance to try some Salomon Equipe SC's last week at Castleford and these I rate above both the Fischer RX8's and the Volkl 5 Stars. If you can get a pair of these cheap would be worth a demo.

srobbo, Hard work but great fun thanks. The instructor/examiner is Shona Tate who's a BASI 1. Her & husband Derek have their own ski school in Chamonix & I had lessons from Derek last year when they both worked for New Gen in C1650. Shona's explanations, demos & feedback are superb but she takes no prisoners (which is quite right of course). It's a pity you couldn't make it.
My skiing seems up to muster apart from a very slight stem when doing short radius turns to the right which is an absolute no-no & something I must correct in the next day or two or it'll be curtains. However at least I spotted it myself during the video analysis. I've a couple of drills lined up for tomorrow so I plan to get there early & get half an hours sneaky practice working on them to try & sort it.
I'm just working on my 'lesson prep' for first thing tomorrow morning.

No seriously, if I was running two pair I would go for a piste blaster, near as I could handle race slalom ski and an off-pister, maybe Legends 8000 or even 8800, That way I would have ice and deep snow covered. But since I don't even carry one pair, I would go for a ski that could do both, which is .....
Of course, there maybe a trade-off but even if you carry two sets you can still end up on the wrong set. I would find that limiting through the day so I want a ski that can handle what I deem to give it. Even if you end up on a fat ski you want it to cut ice IMO,
because you'll find it, even if it is on that 4 'oclock, which tends to be worst because everyone has scapped the snow off and they get so much traffic. Thats my reasoning anyway!

I tried mine out at xscape on sunday, and just grinned from ear to ear when i actually got past the mile long lift ques that is.
The best skis Ive ever owned.
(ok, they are the only skis ive ever owned!)

The total was 391euros and I've got to work out whether it's cheaper after commission/exchange rates etc by bank transfer or PayPal (I'm grateful that some on here have already dealt with them!!).

Skis arrived Tue 4/10 first thing in the morning, well packed and padded and looking every bit as stunning as I could have hoped for...

They are a specialist slalom ski. Great on piste if you ski them hard, but not so good off-piste.

Just after a bit of info, am looking for a new pair of ski's should the right pair come along at the right price.
Would these RX8's be suitable for me? I've had about 7 and a half weeks on ski's, and can comfortably ski most reds and just moving onto blacks. I also would like to try starting going into the deep stuff a bit more off piste. I am a fairly aggressive skiier, given that I am 6ft and about 17 stone, so tend to throw myself at the mountain rather than just potter about a bit.
I am being pushed to go faster and straighter by my brothers (as they say my technique is now good) and say I just need to get as much mileage as possible under me now. As I say I am being pushed to go straighter down the hill, and faster, but my Dynastar Omecarve 7's don't seem to be allowing me to progress, as they feel unstable at higher speeds.
So, as I say, would:
A) Rx8's in general be a good choice for me, and
B) Would 165's be adequate, or should I hold out for a pair of 170's???
Was also thinking about Rossi B1's in a 170ish size

Charlatanefc, For your size, ability & performance requirements I'd try the Atomic Metron M11 in 172cm.
It's a great on piste carver that still skids, well combined with v.good off-piste floatation.
S&R's new store on the Wirral stock them. They list it as a piste prestige ski but that's not correct (like many other S&R listings) as it's really a freeride ski.

Skied the RX 8 at MK yesterday. But was doing the Warren Smith thing, so hardly skied freely and hardly gave them much of a run at all. First impressions: forgiving, hold an edge well. Will have to push on them a bit to find out more.

Warren's courses aren't too bad physically, & I'm certainly not the fittest on the slope. One of the things that really helped me was using Warren's on-slope stretching routine (once warmed up of course) & then again as a warm down at the end of the day - and sometimes again back at the chalet after a shower. To my amazement I managed 7 consecutive full days (the course is 5 skiing days but I'd booked a days private tuition on the middle day off & also on the day after the end of the course) hard work with hardly an ache & it's a routine I've continued to use.
The ankle flexing, braquage & thigh steering drills certainly transformed my skiing & I always do them a few times at the start of each day just to ensure that I'm over the skis etc. If any time I feel I'm not skiing well (usually a bit back seatish) I then go back to them & I find they put me right in a few minutes.
Once mastered (well almost) they're also great drills to do for testing new skis as they show low speed control & response to subtle inputs etc.
