Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Huckacliff duckabranch, I think there is a camp site in Venosc, gondola ride from resort. If you are looking for general skiing instruction try www.easiski.com Or is it racing, park or something specialised?

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Colin B, bit of everything really, just generally polishing up technique, have you skied there in the summer?

Huckacliff duckabranch, No, I went for a few days last summer but didn't ski, lots going on. I've skied there many, many times in the winter. get in touch with Charlotte, she'll sort you out.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

Huckacliff duckabranch, Mostly blue, there is a steeper red which is still open in the summer I think.

Huckacliff duckabranch, In France the choice is only L2A or Tignes.

How does Tiges compare? I was looking at the insideout skiing courses there.

Huckacliff duckabranch, there are three or four long blues open and a red, I think, at L2A. There are two relatively shallow, long blues at the top of the glacier (about 1km?) and Signal Red and Blue which are a bit steeper and more interesting. Don't think that Signal Red is v long, if reds is what you are after. I think Tignes has more mileage, but do not know what the runs are like.

Cheers

Have skied both many times winter and summer. LDA is very flat so fine if you are a beginner or just doing race training but anyone else will get bored. Did the inside out course in Tignes last summer and its highly recommended - includes lots of fun activities in the afternoons. Tignes terrain more varied and steeper - also the possibility of mogul training - lots of freestyle teams out there in summer.

And love to help out and answer questions and of course, read each other's snow reports.

Did L2A few years ago in summer, and yeah if you're piste bashing then it's a bit meh, but the park is great, they do a ton of work keeping it in shape during the summer, so if you fancy a crack at a few kickers and rails, it's the business...
And don't forget to carry enough speed to get through the lake that forms in front of the gondola station.

So if you're just off somewhere snowy come back and post a snow report of your own and we'll all love you very much

Just found out through Easiski that one of the L2A runs (Signal) shuts in mid-late July due to snow melt which kind of reduces the skiable area a bit/a lot. That doesn't make L2A v attractive for summer skiing IMO (unless doing race training, working on technique or playing in the park).

 You know it makes sense.

My favourite glacier is Hintertux in Austria, Its more like a ski resort than just a flat bit at the top of a resort.
http://www.hintertuxergletscher.at/en/
I just looked and they claim 22km of pistes open and 9 lifts open today August 15th 2012
I must admit skiing glaciers in summer is not my thing but I'm sure that its better than the fridge at Hemmel.
I'll quite happily go to a glacier in May or October
Tip : Get up early for the first lift enjoy the ice, because after midday it will become pretty heavy porridge.
Glaciers I've been on over the years:
Hintertux
Stubaital
Gross Glokner
Otztal
Aiguille Verte (this is exciting but it was only May 18th)
Tignes
Alpe d'Heuze
Titlis
Zermatt
and just a couple of weeks ago Diavlezza (but you could not ski it)

Rock on Winter!

Hintertux has warmed up now, 13 degrees at the top and webcams look interesting. I think the snow depths / pistes open dont get updated much in the summer. They did have powder in May this year and October last year though so could improve towards end of summer.

I've been to hintertux early September a few years ago (07), and there was a tonne of snow on the glacier, even 50cm+ of powder in places. I was too inexperienced then to really do it justice though. There is one blue and a few reds. You have to be able to get down the reds to get to the blue.
