I have been looking on line for car hire at Salzburg airport next February. The cheapest Golf sized car is about £230 with the Virgin Account Holiday Autos link. It quotes £136 for the car but when you go through to book the car there is an extra €90 charge for out of hours pick up and drop off. We will be arriving at 2.30 on a Saturday afternoon which I would have thought was the airport's busiest time.
Does anyone know if this is a genuine charge or how I can get car hire cheaper?

SCollier1, send an email directly to the provider. It may be that there is an error in their online booking system. It does seem weird that on the biggest changeover day of the week, that the car hire desk shuts at midday.

SCollier1, I generally pick up between 12:30 and 1:30 no problem at all. I use Car3000 or Sixt

General coment - Make sure you cover all the bases re winter tyres.........and yes you will need them but they try to charge for them as an additional item
