Overheard on a lift the end of last week in Val d'Isere.
Mother consoling her crying child:
"I'm sorry Lydia, but because of the storm that the weather man says is coming we won't be able to get the helicopter to Geneva airport and we'll just have to get a taxi there. Mummy and Daddy aren't happy too but we're not crying, are we ?"

€550 per person, 35min ride - not as much as I thought
found one for €410 per person if there are 5 of you

With 5 in the chopper it costs about £300 per head each way. So, if they did it both ways, that family would add maybe £3k max to their already very pricey trip - it's a lot but not toooo terrible for some minted peeps. Hopefully they spend like that in the UK as well - we need people to splash some cash.

Bode Swiller, If it's Geneva, is it best to book on the French side or is it cheaper on the Swiss side

Buying a helicopter ride is small fry, how about his and hers personal helicopters, his and hers private jets and a 300 million Euro gigayacht, now that is a different world.

Val d'Isere, ooooh La-De-Dah!
dsoutar, I assume that when you say you overheard this, you actually mean that your butler told you about an amusing missive he'd overheard from some ghastly Nouveau Riche whilst serving you coffee and Battenberg?

abc, You have to pay for a taxi any way, you cannot take you luggage on the helicopter, private transfer would be 500 Euro for a Merc.

lightningdan, depends on the type. Some allow medium sized holdall and skis/boards go in the side baskets.

lightningdan, surely you don't drag all your stuff back to the UK. Leave it at the chalet, darling.

Does that include luggage (the one I didn't get didn't) or is it a Ryan-copter with hidden charges ?
[edit] doh! missed the posts above - yeah that's what I meant, luggage goes by other means.

Is it tax deductable? And why Geneva? Surely direct to Courchevel would be better? Or that little airfield just outside Albertville, but seriously, by air Turin is closer than Geneva and easy jet go there as well.
