We're off to Cervinia for New Year. Obviously I can't wait but in the mean time I have a few Q's....
1) Wife if a non-skier. Is there a hotel that would allow her to use their pool for a fee?
2) We're staying slightly above the village (ski in/out next to Run No 3). I know there are two ski schools, will one of them be more convenient than the other for the morning meeting point?
3) Is it possible for my wife to get a walkers / return pass? Where could she meet us on the slopes for lunch?
4) We'll be driving from Milan (Malpensa). Is there anything I need to know (e.g. snow chains, motorway tolls, etc)?
5) Skiset use a hire shop called Nol-Ski. Are they OK?
Many thanks, Pete

PeteMan,
Nol-ski ok but there are others & they will do a deal if you haggle BUT get the offer written down. Road up to resort is pretty easy so unless the weather closes in , doubt you would need chains ( but wouldnt want to risk not having them).
Not sure if a walkers pass is available but if it is, she could get the cable car to Plan Maison where there are several places to eat, alternatively you could meet in one of the places at the bottom of the 2 main returns to town ( there is a nice cafe at bottom of run 7 I think it was; just before the main cable car).
Have no idea about a swimming pool.
FYI; Lifts close at 4pm sharp ( seems a bit early but what can you do), & a fw bars do the happy hour ( with some free food like pizza slices thrown in).
Enjoy.

I'd also recommend that one day she takes a trip to Valtournenche (next village down the valley - I believe there is a bus...) then the cable car up from there - a good restaurant and different views. You get to ski the fabulously long descent from the top of the Cervinia lifts.

PeteMan,
Not sure who the people on with our tour group ( inghams) used but everyone seemed to rave about the instructor; some old guy called Dean ( If i recall) , was about 65 who is a mountain guide in summer & has climbed the matterhorn some 160+ times ( so he said).
Enjoy you trip.

The very swanky hotel next door are happy to let non residents use their spa and pool for €20 so that's the wife sorted out!
Any one get any restaurant recommendations for New Years eve or other tips?
Thanks Pete

We ate at Jour et Nuit, and it was lovely! Tiny inside, you need to book. It's run by Luca, one of the ski instructors who'se a bit of a wine expert.
"Could I see the wine list?"
"I AM the wine list".

Any other suggestions for New Year and for eating anf drinking for the rest of the week?
We're staying 50 meters from "La Bricole" and the hotel also recommend "Chalet Plantorrette" and "Maison de Saussure" (all of which have 10% discount for residents).
Many thanks, Pete

And love to help out and answer questions and of course, read each other's snow reports.

PeteMan,
1. The Sertorelli has a decent spa she can pay to use - there is no swimming pool though.
4. The valley can get seriously foggy and the traffic is bad at weekends - allow plenty of time
I also echo what chrisdavis, says - great place and the guy is a legend

Are you staying at Hotel Mon Reve?? We're going there with Crystal on the 8th of Jan, and the half board deal means we get dinner at La Bricole. Which swanky hotel is happy to use the pool for 20 euro's????

You know it makes sense.

Sertorelli spa is really good. My wife was 4 months pregnant and she stopped skiing early in the day and spent time there. I recall it wasn't expensive (10's of euros). The sauna is next to a balcony so you can go out and get a snow scrub and a heart attack.
Just one quick point about the lifts. The best lift up for skiers is the chair as the cable cars require lots of walking and steps. It was quicker to go up the two chairs and ski down to Plan Maison rather than take the B*(^&y cable car.

Otherwise you'll just go on seeing the one name:

Does that make the chairs really busy AndrewBailey, ? We're staying right near them so was planning to use the chairs anyway, was hoping the majority would be heading for the cable cars.

Sorry I didn't answer this as we had to cancel due to a family illness. How did you get on? We've booked the Mon Reve for this new year. Hopefully we'll get out there this time!

The Mon Reve seems to be a bed and breakfast only hotel. Lots of restaurants in Cervinia though, so should not be a problem.
The Edelweiss is also good value, friendly and convenient.

We had an amazing holiday at hotel Mon Reve. Its a B&B hotel, with the half board dinner at La bricole. The resteraunt is fantastic, with big portions and lovely food. Next door to the Mon Reve is this place:
http://www.principedellenevi.com/
Its got a great apres bar, and the resteraunt is great too for lunch or dinner if you fancy a change. We thoroughly enjoyed it and will be going back

Can you remember how much the fixed price menu at the Bricole was and whether there is one available to non residents in the hotel next door (we are b&b at the Mon Rece).

PeteMan, you can arrange the half board through the Mon Reve, and, I think, through the Furggen Hotel.
