I can get a rudely cheap weekend flight I just found on the www to Milan Bergamo. It'll get me two full days on the slopes and nil time off work in mid January. It's too good to be true....or is it?
I am early intermediate (let's not start on that topic of definitions of skiing abilities!!).
I want no more than 1.5 hour transfer, but I do want snow.
What's there for me?

Try this link for a list of resorts from milan (and other) airports and estimated times: http://www.ifyouski.com/resorts/airports/milan/
I am surpised that this link does not mention Madonna di Campiglio which is probably in the region of 2.5 hours away?

Peter Leuzzi, Bergamo is about 40 minutes away from Milan (towards Venice).

I've used Milan Bergamo as a base for Zermatt/Cervinia. As long as you avoid Milan rush hour travel this is about 3 hours, but is well worth considerintr
The Milky Way (Sestriere and Sauze d'oulx) are within a couple of hours. You'll not find many places with 1.5 hours unfortunately.
As you've probably noticed, Ryanair is doign flights to Bergamo for 1p each way (£25 return including all taxes)
I'm doing a long weekend in December to Zermatt. Flying on the 10am flight out of Stansted, driving to the resort for in time for dinner. Reckon I can get a pretty full day skiing on return day as the timezone difference works in your favour and there's a late flight returning. two days off work would allow 3 days skiing.

Peter Leuzzi,
Milan Bergamo would server Bormio quite well. It is about 170Km but I haven't done the trip so don't know how long it would take. I think it would be a train/bus ride but for that price you could hire a car. One of the most southerly resorts in the Sud Tyrol might well be in reach and maybe Selva or Cortina. But Bormio has a 1000m-3000m vertical which should keep you busy for a couple of days even if the snow is poor...!! Cervinia would be good but a long drive, Champoluc is nearer..!!

Bergamo has a lovely mediaeval walled town. We stayed overnight there in June. Fantastic restaurants.

Peter Leuzzi, It's worth looking on this site http://www.activitybreaks.com/ They specialise in breaks close to Ryanair destinations. Last year they had some really good price deals to places like Bormio.

geetee, that's a useful find at only 60km from bergamo
With current flight times and prices, you could almost do a one dayer there. Return flights for £25 (2 x £0.29 + taxes) on selected days in January, arriving at 9:30 and departing at 19:00. Sets me thinking ...

geetee,
Very interesting indeed. On tghat second link it refers to an airport Orio al Serio. Is that the same one we are talking about at Bergamo?
Ray Zorro,
Are you serious? That would be unbelievable if its possible.

Peter Leuzzi, they are indeed the same airport - very confusingly referred to by different names at different places on the web ...
foppolo does sound good indeed .... now if only Ryanair would launch some good flights from Dublin .... oh being stuck in the airline sticks is a pain in the kaks

The only problem with flying from Luton or Stansted on a Friday is the traffic on the M25. We once missed flights because of the time it took to get there. Depending on where you are coming from, you may need to allow lots of time.
