Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Just got my first set of skis! Just a few questions

Won a competition on the internet for a pair of Salomon 2012's (179s).

My question is that are these skis too long for me? I'm about 170cm tall, but does the fact that these skis have Rocker and are twin twips mean that this length of ski is ok? I don't want to go all out and buy bindings for them if they are the wrong length!

I've read a lot about how the length of ski is dependent on ability level, what terrain you actually ski and the weight you are. I'm a Inter/Advanced level skiier with about 14 weeks of skiing, ski about 70% groomers/30 park and i'm pretty light, about 60 kilos.

I'll be looking forward to you guys' responses!

yeah they'll be fine, I manage with 180 non twin tips and without any rocker. from what you've said they sound like they'll be good, but bare in mind salomon have some terrible durability issues in there newer skis, but seeing as you got them free I'd be happy.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Well... Lengthwise 179 for a twintip rocker might be OK for you, although you are pretty light. I'm 173cm and on 180cm twintips, but I'm more like 80 kilos so my excess fat drives the skis a bit harder...

2012's are 91mm underfoot which sounds pretty wide for 70% piste but they're meant to be good in the park. I'm sure they would be great fun on piste, not really carving machines though...

Best way is to try them!
