Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Mr Marmot, I doubted you there for a moment but it does look like that could actually happen without delays. The last flight arriving in S'end tonight is at 23:05 which is coincidentally the same time as the last train to L'pool St. Now that is a bit cr*p! Trains don't start again until 04:05, that's a long time in a small airport. Here's hoping that they sort that out pretty soon. Oh well, it is only 40 odd miles to central London. Only a little further out than Stanstead.

But I can't mini spock! I can no longer find the tool in my posts to enable deletion! I'm a confused marmot!

Edit: Strangely, when I subsequently reviewed this specific post the 'delete' icon has appeared against it. However, there are no 'delete' icons next to my multiple posts above. Maybe I didn't actually write them Puzzled

Mr Marmot, you can't delete a post after someone has posted after your post. You can edit and replace all the text with e.g. "duplicate post"

That explains it. Never noticed this before. Thanks. I'll now edit text with the words 'duplicate post'.

My 'sources' tell me that recently some passengers on a late evening airport arrival were non-too-pleased to find that the trains had stopped running from the 'conveniently located railway station immediately outside the terminal providing fast and frequent trains to Central London' and they had to take a taxi instead! I bet they soon found out just how far Southend is from London!

I thought that the Victoria line runs pretty much through the night? At least it often gets me home at ungodly hours after a night out in London.

emwmarine, er... the Victoria Line doesn't go to Southend Airport, it's a National Rail station. They obviously had you fooled into thinking it's in London wink

holidayloverxx, FYI - the boring answer...
There are two train stations in central Southend, Southend Central (the line follows the coast and then goes to Fenchurch Street) and Southend Victoria (the line goes inland and then on to Liverpool Street). They're a short walk from each other at that point. The Victoria is the one that services the airport. Both lines seem to close down London bound services around 11pm and reopen at 4am. This leaves late arriving air travellers in a bit of a pickle.

N.B. Trains out of London to the sticks finish at about 1am.

and no, no tube lines go that far out...

On the other hand even if you arrive at Heathrow you're not much better off as the tube shuts down in the dead of night. You would have the option of night buses or a shorter cab journey though.

I'm taking this all FAR too seriously aren't I?

little ms spock,

your points are very valid but I don't think the current/planned passenger volume justifies the extra expense just yet..

little ms spock, Ah, of course. I forgot the Southend line is the Southend Victoria line (which I should know as I go through Shenfield a few times a week!)

So if you're just off somewhere snowy come back and post a snow report of your own and we'll all love you very much

Sorry - to many that live there the line is called the 'victoria line' or the 'liverpool street' line.

The other line is called the Fenchurch street line or the Shoeburyness line.

The two lines offer two slightly different routes into London, late at night drunk commuters often get gently shooed from fen church street to liverpool street.

oops just seen the other replies.

Still I can't wait to fly to the Val Thoren's Geneva airport from London's Southend Airport. Now, if they only fly to Val Thorens, Chambery as well. Little Angel

Still new here. Why do I sometimes get duplicate posts for no reason? Is it something I am doing wrong?

You could ask the same about Luton, Gatwick and Stanstead, non of which are within London itself.

I have, and was politely passed over to the London central enquiries centre based in London Dehli ...

I've a flight next year booked from Southend. Never flown from there before. Any recommended/not recommended long term car park?

it's very small so the long and short stay carparks are only a few metres away from each other. The cheap alternative is just leave it in the macdonalds next door. They wont mind.

There's various park-on-my-drive locations nearby for about £25/week, or the train station is even nearer to the terminal than the carpark if you can use the train.

There was a problem locally with a large unlicensed carpark that got shut down which made me nervous of some of the unofficial alternatives (I nearly booked it just before it was closed!). The official long stay is maybe 300m walk from the terminal.

The retail centre car park next door claims to have time limits etc. It would stress me out to go on holiday not knowing if my car would be towed or heavily fined when I got back.

Fantastic airport. I can arrive at 6.30am for a 7am to Amsterdam, and still have time to grab a bite at the terminal!
