Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Scarpa boots and dynafit front binding holes

 Poster: A snowHead

Hi

I have some dynafit tft speeds mounted on some movement powwow's that I use for touring and also on piste. I have had a couple of falls where the bindings have released. I noticed at the end of my last trip that although the metal disk at the front remains completely in place the plastic around it is wearing away:

Do you think that his will effect the bindings. I really like them as they are light on a fairly heavy ski.

Any thoughts comments would be helpful.

I can't imagine any reason why damage to the plastic would affect the security of the binding so long as the metal inserts are intact.

Mine are similarly worn (pic below) & are Scarpa boots too but tramping through granite rocks would do that to anything. Not even thought to worry about it TBH.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

moffatross,
Thanks, I agree. Think I just needed some reassurance!

Slight divergence from topic - regarding Dynafit rear binding "grooves" I've recently been to a resort with lots of walking on gravel. When I took my boots off I found a small stone firmly wedged in the heel groove on each boot - not something I've thought to check on the hill but as it took a good poke with a screwdriver to get them out it could have been a cause of some aggro Confused

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

The metal inserts are part of a larger chunk of material that should be fairly firmly fastened to the structure of the boot (there are bolts and stuff in my boots). If the sole or toe acually cracks then you might have cause for concern, but hitting your boot hard enough to crack the solid bits probably means you have other more pressing problems!
