Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Bid to rescue 2 Argentines from Antarctic glacier

How scary must this be, to fall down a crevasse more than 30m. As reported here by the BBC, 4 Argentine army commandos have been dropped in on skis to try to rescue them. There has been no contact since they fell on Saturday - just hope they are still alive.

Wow that picture of the hole the snowmobile fell through is really scary. Looks like a relatively flat area with no reason to suspect a crevasse of that size underneath. No contact for more than 3 days - it's not looking good for the poor souls.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Yes, the photo shows what seems to be a very difficult crevasse to detect. What a terrifying experience.

The rescuers failed to find any sign of the two missing men, despite abseiling 120m into the crevasse but even then not reaching the bottom which is reported to be more than 200m deep. Report from the BBC.

They say the men are believed to have died on impact - sounds ghastly if they didn't Sad

Yes, it's almost inconceivable that they could have survived that fall - in total darkness and shock. I wonder if any crevasse recovery effort has ever been attempted to that depth, and how they will safey support the crane on the snow bridge.

Use a split leg crane, imagine a step ladder with one leg either side of the crevasse and a winch mounted at the apex, if they found no evidence after 120m then it's a body recovery opperation I'm afraid Sad
