Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Whistler, Easter weekend

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Hello all - I am going to Canada on Business from 9th April. I though that I would go a bit earlier, and try to get a long weekend in at Whistler. I have a number of questions:

1) will anyone else be there and need a ski buddy
2) is equipment hire any good? I won't be taking boots as they are simply too much to lug around while trabvelling all over Canada for the next 2 weeks
3) is there any budget accommodation? Travelling on my own, so just need a place to sleep!
4) typically, how is the snow in early April?
5) will Easter weekend be a nightmare for cost and crowds - and would the following weekend (April 14th-15th) be a better bet, even if I can only get 2 days' of skiing in?

Any help appreciated, and even better if there are Snowheads out there at the same time!

Harry.

1) unfortunately no .. canada seems to have the best snow conditions at the moment
2) of course!! i generally stay at creek side (gf's cabin Smile) and rent from these guys next to boston pizza .. they are not on the official website .. so cheaper .. but i do take my own boots
3) just looked on booking.com .. looks like summit lodge is running a deal and you can get the 3 nights over easter for like 340 CAD

I'll be there with my other half from 3rd-15th if you fancy meeting up Very Happy
the equipment hire there's good, there's loads of shops to choose from, i hired several times there. the salomon hire shop at the irish pub has a good selection and is right across from the gondolas.
it's been snowing every night there for over a week, apparently they've had about 1.8m in 7 days, hopefully it'll keep up and conditions will be good, i havent been in april before but mid march was always excellent.
it prob will be busy with the school hols, there's a lot of people come up on weekends normally anyway. the week before xmas got really busy so i'm imagining easter will be much the same
don't really know of any budget accomm, we normally stay in the upper village to be closer to the gondolas which is generally more expensive.
hope that helps! snowHead

Thank you all! Getting final confirmation of itinerary, so hopefully will get up there for a couple of days. Have found a hostel, and will have a hire car so will probably drive in. As I'm doing a lot of travelling, will have to hire boots rather than bring my own, which I'm not looking forward too.

Mojito, if I make it out there, I will PM you beforehand and at least meet you for a hot chocolate on the slopes!

I'm also heading out to Whistler with my other half on 7 April, staying a bit out of town having found a good deal. Are there any overnight ski lockers near the lifts? If so anyone any idea of the cost?

Also any recomendations for good (cheap) bars/pubs welcome.

Cheers

the carleton lodge in upper whistler village is in a good location, not sure of cost though, you could try looking for a website they might let you book online.

Didn't make it to Whistler - Lake Louise tomorrow and Saturday though, if meetings here in Calgary go OK and I can get away...snow has been awesome, according to the locals! One of them has even offered to lend me kit!
