Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Driving in France new rule - breathalyser

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
A friend of mine sent me the note below.

You may already be aware of the new French laws requiring all motorists to have a disposable breathalyser (to measure breath alcohol levels) in their car at all times. This is now appearing in the press and was mentioned on BBC TVs Top Gear programme last weekend. In case you are contacted by clients regarding this we have obtained an update from PWC Landwell on the situation as follows

"The decree regarding the obligation to have two alcohol breath tests in a vehicle was published yesterday, 1 March 2012, with a date of implementation of 1 July 2012. According to the decree, the obligation is to have one breath test in the vehicle but if the driver tests himself , drivers will need to have a second breath test (unused) in order to comply with the law. There is a fine of € 11 if the driver does not have such breath test in the vehicle but the fine - but not the obligation to have the tests in the vehicle - should only be applied as from 1 November 2012".

Forget about it if you want to, but it is still going to become a legal requirement in France, see this. Here's a link to the official decree number 2012-284 http://www.journal-officiel.gouv.fr/publication/2012/0301/joe_20120301_0052_sx00.html?verifBaseDir=/verifier&notVerif=0&verifMod=load.php&verifExplMod=attente.php&ficBaseDir=../publication/2012/0301&joDate=01/03/2012#test12

P.S I think your gendarme friend needs to keep himself better informed about French Law! wink

freeheelskier, Also you say that the limit of alcohol for driving in France is now 0.2, not 0.5. Can you provide a reference for that statement, as all the websites I've searched say that the French limit is 0.5 gram/litre? eg this. According to this site the 0.2 limit does apply in Sweden, perhaps that's what you were thinking of? Madeye-Smiley

From my understanding all drivers need to carry them - Halfords already has twin packs for £4.99 http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_storeId_10001_catalogId_10151_productId_871069_langId_-1_categoryId_226211

Apparently you can buy a pack of 12 for a tenner in the French supermarkets.

freeheelskier, it has already been the law for professional drivers for some time. In fact, the law for all drivers was actually passed 42 years ago, but was never put into action.

Have they actually set a standard of what test is actually required to be carried - there are loads on ebay.

Mind you I struggle to see how they are going to stop drunk driving. If you are that drunk to need testing, I suspect there is a good chance that you are already telling yourself you don't need to. Is the idea that everyone tests themselves before every journey, or on what criteria you should test yourself. Is being drunk an excuse for forgetting to test or not understanding what the result means......etc. It's a proverbial can of worms if you ask me.
