 Poster: A snowHead

* best that I've done
Following on from last weekend when I uploaded to Vimeo some old videos of our exploits in La Grave pre YouTube from the early 2000's - 2003 - I then spent a fair amount of time compiling this film to upload to Vimeo - which was quite a task as I had to rip the original dvd, then edit and compile so I could upload it to Vimeo*
Looking back at this film, it still rates as our best trip ever, and I've been back to Lyngen four more times since!
As you'll see we packed a hell of a lot into the week and a bit, touring, fishing, heli, road trips, all in stunning scenery, from Lyngen and the islands North of the Artic Circle, back down to Narvik then up to Riksgransen for some Heli - a great trip indeed.
Another French guide from La Grave (Philou)came with us for his "holiday" and I'll always remember him saying that you'll not find anywhere better in the world to ski!
This is a film, lasting some 40 odd minutes, produced by one of our group. Like I said it was in the days before YouTube and is still a damn classy piece of work with a great soundtrack.
Enjoy !!

Great stuff especially considering it's so old and pre Youtube / fat skis.
Were your trips all DIY or have you been to Lyngen Lodge?

All the trips I've done have been done with a guide friend of mine Per As. I've taken my wife up there a couple of times, and been with other friends. We've always stayed on boats, doing the modern sailing boat initially and then the last couple of times on a beautiful traditional wooden sailing boat http://www.gox.no/sailingandskiing.shtml
We've also added on trips to Riksgransen renting a car at Tromso and driving to Riks - but have never done the lodge.
On the first day of one trip, Per put his skis down and went to clip in and the front lug of his Dynafit binding broke, and we were miles from anywhere on an Island - luckily another boat was moored up with a ski crew (the really famous Swedish extreme skier, can't remember his name, but was in "Claim") and Per borrowed some telemark skis and used those for the trip - but just as we were hiking up one hill a few days later these guys came down and I noticed that one dude was all logoed up with Dynafit, so knowing that quite a few ski manufacturers come to Lyngen for photo shoots etc I asked if he was anything to do with Dynafit, with that the others laughed and said he was "Mr Dynafit" turned out he was the son of the main man.
Since then I've stayed in contact with Fritz and have toured with him - but what was interesting was that they were doing what we always said must be possible and that was driving around and just stopping off and doing what looked like it could be good and then staying in guesthouses / hotels though there are not that many, but Lyngseidet is a good base.

Obviously can't do the all the islands but there are one or two that connected by ferry - but many of the routes we've done were accessible by road anyway as we moored up in harbours etc which you could drive to

Yesterday my Skype went off and it was my dear friend Per calling me, I asked him how things were and he said that he'd had a couple of good powder days..........
Conversation carried on a bit with me thinking that it was really warm in the Alps and that he must be touring to get to it........
Then he explained how he'd been skiing the island with the slow motion sugar avalanches that were in the film I've just uploaded......
Then I was more confused as I thought he was skyping me from his home in La Grave but he was skyping me from the boat still moored in Vanna - and that big storms were forecast and he wasn't to sure if they'd chance making the trip over to the peninsular or not.......
Anyway the following link will take you to the pictures from yesterday http://www.gox.no/todaypicture.shtml
Maybe next year ?
