Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Where to go in Austria, March 2013?

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
We're looking to take a family group to Austria in March 2013 and are looking for a resort that will interest us all.

From non-skiers that will be looking after baby, beginner skiers / boarders and the odd run or two that the intermediates can have fun on.

Being that this is a family holiday, we're more interested in ensuring that the beginners have a great first experience than lots of mileage to get lost on. Also, things to keep the non-skier from being bored silly for the few hours a day that she'll be on her own. We're effectively after the whole chocolate box experience snowHead (Oh - and if you can guarantee the snow too, I'd be grateful Laughing )

Suggestions, please snowHead

Chocolate box and March are a bit of a gamble...
Normally the valleys are starting to severely melt off by march leaving the nice not-yet-green-but-brown grass.
However, the pistes are still tip top (chance of spring/corn snow is pretty high), the majority of areas will be nice and quiet and from around mid March onwards Ski Amadé offer free lift passes to all under 16's... whicih makes things pretty A1 for families.

you know the score by now Michelle, drop us a PM or skype me if you want some more info for what you can get round these 'ere parts!

flangesax, I will do, but wanted the view of the community too Toofy Grin
The reason why we're looking at March is because I thought that It may be easier on the baby who'll be 8 months old at the time - not quite as cold...
geepee, are you offering your services NehNeh

Michelle, Two excellent Austrian resorts for beginners are Alpbach and Westendorf - both very pretty (in fact I think both claim to have won the award of prettiest village in Austria? Puzzled Toofy Grin ). Both have nursery slopes right in the village centres. See info on resorts: Alpbachand Westendorf
If you stay at Westendorf there's a bus service to nearby Kitzbuhel for some sightseeing for the non-skier (you could of course stay there, but not sure how good it is for absolute beginners).

Alternatively look at the Zillertal with resorts at Mayrhofen, Zell am Ziller, Kaltenbach/Hochfugen. If staying at Mayrhofen there are several gentle beginner slopes on top of the Ahorn mountain (as well as gnarlier stuff on the other Penken mountain, including the Hari Kiri which is claimed to be Austria's steepest groomed black run!). There is a narrow gauge railway (the Zillertalbahn), which runs along the valley between these ski areas and is included in the lift pass and would also be useful for your non-skier. Near Mayrhofen there is a cheese factory making the local Bergkase which does an interesting visitor tour (with tasting!) for your non skier.
