Just seen this on Inghams Website - allocation on arrival (apartments) in Val D'isere a whopping £1000 discount....are they making any money on this?

Guess it is a case of they have currently have the plane half full and empty but paid for apartments so any return on their expenditure is better than none.

What is it they are offering for £788.10?
If it is simply flights, transfers and a self catering apartment for 2 persons for a week then that would seem to be a "normal" price.
If the original price was £1740 (912 + 39.90 + 788.10) then I'm not surprised that it is still available. Basically the holiday was hugely overpriced in the first place.

Yes, £400 for a s/c week doesn't sound particularly cheap, and it's likely to be v crowded in Val d'I that week.
Probably the huge "discount" stems from the silly "under-occupancy" charges they were adding initially.
