I can ski pretty well.
My son (10), who has just learnt to ski is hammering me to get some boards for a trip in late march
Now having never been on a board and not reall know a great deal,
Do I buy a cheap as chips on eBay or hire in resort

Another vote for hiring, but if you decide after a few days you like it, then get a board for your next trip and don't bother ever hiring again, because hire boards really are chuff.

You will love it though and be buying yourself one soon enough, but at least then you will know what you are looking for and get a half decent board.
