Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

First Ski Purchase

Thinking about getting a pair of new planks for this year's trip. Typical UK leisure skier - skiing for >10 years now but only 1 week each year. Don't have a problem skiing blacks but only just starting to venture off-piste.

The last few years I've been skiing a set of early Salomon Crossmax 10's that I inherited from a friend that I think are a 180. Guessing the age I reckon they've probably had a good 15+ weeks of use and the last time I had them serviced I was told they were 'end of life' - one of them sits flat on the ground (bent ski?).

We're off to Wengen in mid March and I'm thinking about something to replace them. Realistically most time is spent on-Piste but looking to play around the edges when I can so an all-rounder is in order. Currently looking at the Fischer Watea 78 in 181cm but open to other suggestions.

A little puzzled about how they're pitched - have they changed over the years? One site I've found describes the 8/9 as intermediate/advanced all-purpose but the 10/11 as advanced "freerider lite".

What else should I consider?

What size and weight are you? That factor alone will strongly influence your decision.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

They're up around the £550 mark so >£250 more than the price i've seen the Fischers for. Anything else?

So I've picked up some K2 AMP Rictor's in 181 at a bargain £325 from Climateski. Some bargains to be had out there at the moment (though their prices seem to have gone up overnight). Partner has got some Atomic Affinity Pure coming from Conrad-Sport at about £230.

Looking forward to trying them out in a few weeks.
