oski was back on form today after a bout of seconditis over the last few races. It proved a bit of an expensive day though as he managed to destroy one of his poles (which I now need to find a replacement for by Friday!) in the process - but a nice demonstration of the spirit of mutual support amongst the racers that his closest rival was willing to lend him poles for the second run. Some more interesting course setting today than you often get on the very uniform indoor slopes, as they'd built a roller which one of the courses was set down, causing a few problems for some of the early male runners. Hemel seems to have the softest snow of the indoor venues so there was a well established rut line by the time the girls came down that course and it seemed to cause them less trouble. The short GS which followed was quite entertaining - not so much for the racing as unofficial contest between some of the top guys as to who could pull off the most impressive tricks on the jump from the top of the roller. oski of course decided that he had to join in with the antics - typical!
It's been a slightly surprising season so far for oski. For a racer who trains predominantly on the dry slope I'd expect him to be getting his best results there, but at the moment - certainly if seed points are anything to go by - he's doing better indoors. Time to concentrate on outdoor racing now though, as we'll not be back indoors again until the start of September.

If you're a commentary connoisseur you'd have loved Welwyn the day before. Commentary there sounded like it had escaped from one of those Saturday evening TV game shows.

So guys
autumn is coming , there is a sniff of the season to come. WOndered what your kids are up to?
After much pondering we decided to switch ski clubs, from NASA a giant club to CA, a smaller one (both based out of Nakiska) . Quite a few of our friends departed off to other clubs and we are hoping the new club will give us more alignment between our kids in different programmes and will generally be less hard work (in terms of two kids in different programmes at two differnt palces at the same time). At the giant club they focussed too much on the little pictures and forgot the big and were over the top. Plus the giant club put fees up hugely and did silly things like dryland training 4 times a week for 10 year olds. So far so good, although we are not into the season yet!!!
This has also come at a time of age restructuring so we now have U12 and U10 and so no-one quite knows how it will all pan out.
So we have a U12 er (just 10) and a U10 er (still 7). They are both about to start gymnastics at COP once a week as part of their dryland- this is at the same time and place which is partly why we moved club. They also have dryland weds evenigns starting in 10 days, although my 7 year old may not really go, we'll see.
So , how did the summer season pan out and when does stuff get started in norway?

My racing Kid (TJ 22!!) is off to Chile on Thurs for 3 weeks of speed training with his GB team mate Dougie Crawford and the US team.
He had a great summer of fitness on the bike and in the gym. Can now squat 2+ times his own body weight (160kg). He had a good glacier training camp in Tignes last month trying out the new WC reg skis.
On 1st Nov he is off to the USA training centre in Copper Mountain, Colorado for 3 weeks training, then will probably do the Lake Louise World Cup (DH & SG) then the Beaver Creek World Cup (DH & SG) after those around 12 Nor-Am races in Can/USA before coming home for Christmas.
He's looking to get some really good results so he qualifies for this season's World Champs & the 2014 Winter Olympics.
Hopefully he will get a good sponsor to help pay for it all!

My racing kid had been working his bo llocks off for the last 2 months in a hotel waiting tables, in his free time he got to go to the gym and now he is back at school and praying for an injury free season.
