Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

ALPINSAFETY® - personal injury insurance

Hi all,

Forgive my ignorance, but is this the same as Carte Niege? I'm just booking my ski's on snowbrainer and it's offering me this option. I always get Carte Niege, but will probably get this if it's similar.

Thanks,

Dave

No it is not the same. This is a third party holiday insurance.

Beware also insurance for skis offered by such sites; generally insurance purchased from a ski shop is more comprehensive.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

James the Last, what makes you say that? Looks like a Swiss wintersports insurance policy to me, covers much the same things as you get with insurance bought at the ticket windows in French resorts. http://www.alpinresorts.com/data/pdf/AVB_Alpinsafety_2010_en.pdf

Lizzard, yes to me it looks the same as the carte niege, but this only charges by the day so if you only ski once a year then it works out a lot cheaper. At least that's how it looks to me!

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

you can buy insurance by the day with your ski pass in France - even one day, if you wish.

davejsy, you've been buying annual Carte Neige for one-week holidays? Get it at the ticket office with your pass, as pam w, says, 16,80€ for the week.

Because as you rightly note:

So *not* the same thing Wink . OP asked "Is this the same thing?" (And TBH without going through the policy in fine detail I wouldn't want to comment too much. And given the quality of alpinresorts.com's ski-hire insurance, which is capped at €300ish so useless for more expensive skis (despite charging you more if your skis are more expensive) I'd be inclined to leave well alone.) wink wink

Hiring skis through a Maltese (iirc?) website is one thing. When I buy the insurance that's going to send a helicopter to save my life I'll buy it from a UK company, thank you - or of course something provided by the lift company.

I haven't been for a couple of years, but last time I'm sure it was annual cover that I got sold (think it was about €36). The Alpinesafety thingy worked out at £20 for the two of us for 8 days.
