Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Again looking for info on hotels/chalets with twin bedded accommodation, which would be suitable for group of older skiers in the Alta Badia area. Not looking for 4 star accomm.but something with reasonable access to lifts.

I would recommend Collets - they are in Arabba, Covara and Pedraces. Nice accomodation, lovely people (both staff and -usually- guests). They will do a pick-up from Venice. Very well run - and nice when Tom Collet will phone to check everything is ok, never had that from Mr Ingham or Neilson Happy.PM if I can tell you any more.

A 4 night stay may be difficult in this area as most hotels require a minimum of 7 nights depending on the week in question. Use the following link and do a search for accomodation for the dates you require. If you find anything then confirm directly with the hotel that this is ok

If you can't get 4 nights in those resorts, you might have to try the villages down the valley like Pederoa, La Valle/Wengen

This is a good resource for searching availability on accommodation in the area, you can put in your chosen dates:

Yes I was amused to find that there is a Wengen in the Dolomites (as well as the rather better known one in Switzerland). Madeye-Smiley

Apparently a Weng is a sloping meadow, so as you can imagine there are a lot of places called Weng or Wengen across the German-speaking Alps,

The northern half of the Dolomites being historically part of Austria (South Tyrol) has a lot of German placenames, the Italian ones were invented under the Mussolini regime as he tried to Italianise the area. Even now some towns like Bruneck/Brunico have over 80% German speakers.

There is an even older linguistic layer in the upper valleys, that of the Ladins, whose language descends directly from the Latin the Romans brought in when they conquered the Rhaetian Celts, so some places have 3 names like La Val/La Valle/Wengen where the population is actually 97% Ladin speaking.

Check out the German/Italian mix in this video of a local South-Tyrolean folk group from Kastelruth/Castelrotto, nice views of Dolomite peaks too:

You hoping to get an email response from a hotel in the Dolomites? Good luck with that. Phone them but phone them quick as some places may be shutting down soon for the pre winter period. Alternatively, email them again but also provide a translation of your email in German or Italian. I had more luck with return emails with hotels in the Castelrotto/Siusi/Seiser alm area than I did with hotels in Alta Badia (Corvara, Colfosco, San Cassiano etc).
