I was umming and arghing about purchasing a GoPro before heading to Tignes at the beginning of January, having thought £300 was a little too much to spend on myself for one camera, a friend and I split the cost and I'm very glad we did. The thing is superb, great quality and very enjoyable to watch. We too advantage of the offer from Dog Cam Sports and I've put together a little clip of our week.
Originally, my plan was to sell it after the week but having seen the stuff it produces I've decided to keep it and use it every time we go away not just skiing. Thinking about it? Just do it.
Few would fault the GoPro for footage quality, but those mountings really put me off. Saw alot of people with them this year and they look really exposed. One good spill and I don't know how well those mounts would fair. Saw on get clumped by the bar coming down on a lift.
Much prefer the contour for its mounting - similar to how I mount my cam at the moment and much smaller profile to the kit...

You do have to be aware of the extra height getting on lifts etc, but it's not too much of a problem. The mounts are solid - no problems once on your head, whether falling over skiing or capsizing kayaking. I always tether mine jsut in case though.
Here's a little video me and some mates put together using gopros, even in pretty turbulent water they stay on fine:
I think the Joey GoPro backlash has already started on TGR, where it seems to have been decided that they are sooo 2011.

fatbob, one simply cannot be 'core' if one continues to do what the plebs are now doing.
Nick-o, looks like fun and I do like the way you seem to knock your snowboarding mate over at one point pushing off him.

I'm really tempted with the Hero 2 at the moment. The footage on the internet is amazing, especially when compared to the Hero 1 which let's face it, it a very good camera in its own right.
I'm with others though and am still not convinced of the having the cam on the top of my head and looking like a giraffe! I've thought about the Contour but ok the cam would be on the side but the video doesn't look like it'll be as good.
On the web, i've seen people using a GoPro mount on the side of their helmet. Anyone used one?

snowHeads are a friendly bunch.

Kersh, there's also a front mount which avoids the teletubby-esque look.
And love to help out and answer questions and of course, read each other's snow reports.

meh, yeah i've seen those. I think if I bought one, i'd go with that.
So if you're just off somewhere snowy come back and post a snow report of your own and we'll all love you very much

MInimum_2 won a Kodak playspot camera in the SH Xmas draw. It is kind of shaped like a mobile phone and the lens just sits in the top third of the device - a bit like a mobile phone. We are taking a chest holder for him to wear and this sounds a good option vs. a helmet mount.
You know it makes sense.

These things always remind me of having to watch my grandfather's home movies of Rotary trips to Outer Mongolia.
