In certain resorts which are well known for them they are popular but in general most people prefer groomed pistes or every ski slope would be a mogul field

I just like the idea of people learning to ski, rather than slide through a theme park. |
Do you also want to get rid of all the artifical 'fun parks' where all the dudes hang out Lots of them can't ski/board very well but they get their kicks from jumps, rails, boxes etc |
I'm very much in favour of pisteing everything that they possibly can. I can ski bumps (after a fashion), but I don't want to. I get far more pleasure from a well bashed piste. However, I'd cheerfully get rid of all the snowpacks. Ghastly things. Then again, I suppose they do have the advantage of keepng most of the noise, boarders and accidents in one place.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

So in summary...- some people like "parks"
- some people like bumps
- some people like corduroy
Depending on which specific thing you want, some resorts will be better for you than others. The science of rocketry it is not.
Personally I wish I'd invented the idea of corralling all those hopeless side-slippers into one tiny part of the mountain, and telling them that they need to trash the edges of their boards on metal rails whilst wearing fashion victim clothes. That's the sort of genius which really needs to be encouraged. Half pipe was amusing, but you needed skill for that, so this is way better. I can't wait to see what the next thing is. Because this too will pass.
So what's the problem again? Oh, some people have problems because they go places which don't deliver what they want? I hesitate to suggest the obvious solution... find a resort which you like. It's a wide world, there really is plenty of choice.

I'm not sure how a statement of fact can be ridiculous. Some European resorts provide secure off-piste areas. And some that do the vast majority are still on groomed pistes.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

Have been thinking lately after reading about the history of a couple of ski resorts...
What happened before pisted bashers? Pistes left as the were? No/loosely defined pisted? Manual pisting? How? And when did someone suddenly decide to build a huge tractor for smoothing pistes? |
Emille Allais who is considered the father of modern day ski could have arguably created the first piste grooming machine as we know today.

It was at Squaw Valley that he invented the first caterpillar snow grooming machine, |

The most popular resorts are the ones which groom the most. No coincidence. |
Example please?

Im lucky at the moment, to be able to do 2 trips a year, 1 Euro trip mostly piste bashed and a second trip a few weeks later to Canada, where ungroomed in bounds are by the bucket load. So get to practice all the skills 😎🎿🎿🎿🎿
