Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Which skis to hire?

 Poster: A snowHead

Hi

We are beginner skiiers and ski mainly blue and green runs. When I book skis, I usually book the lower level package, but I was just wondering if there would be any advantage to choosing the next skis up? I know that usually paying more means you get something better. I would be happy to pay more if the skis would help my (not very good) skiing! However, I don't want ones that make you go faster! What would you generally recommend?

Thanks

Spend any spare money on extra lessons - will benefit you more at this stage than 'better' skis.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

munchimo, The more expensive skis are likely to be more difficult to initiate turns on as they are likely to be stiffer and wider. This really doesn't help build confidence in a novice/intermediate skier.

As the others have said, more lessons will help and you'll then be able to make a more informed decision based on what sort of skiing you might like to do.

Hope you find something appropriate Wink

"better" skis are also likely to be heavier.

The slower the better. Get the cheapest you can find, but make sure that the DIN settings are appropriate by reading up on what you think they should be and checking what the technicians set it at.
