Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Grand massif lift pass

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Sneaky 3 days in Sixt at the far end of the Grand Massif from 1st Feb. We are on a tight budget and thinking about just getting a pass for the sector massif, and not the sector Flaine. Mainly because the skiing from Flaine does not look that interesting on the piste map. Looks from the map that we will not be able to ski back to Sixt though without the Flaine pass though. We are strong intermediates.

Will I be missing out, or is my perception correct?

For 3 days there is plenty of skiing in samoens and les carroz. I do like the skiing in Flaine but your not going to be missing out on much.

Also the run form Flaine to Sixt is barely open anyway

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Hutchy,

Thanks for the info.

Any not to be missed runs in that sector?

That requires a Flaine area pass though.

Ringing Master, the skiing in the Flaine bowl is very good and the snow quality is normally a little better but there is plenty in the Massif pass for three days.

also i have seen this year you can buy points in Flaine and each lift is a certain value of points. Not sureof any costs, or values. Maybe on the website.

€15.70 will buy you a single trip up the Grand Platiers which should let you into Gers. But I think you'll find the difference between a GM and a Flaine pass for 3 days is probably only about €15 anyway.

Edited to remove silly mistake, thank you Carroz.

 snowHeads are a friendly bunch.

James the Last, aup de veran is closed at the moment, and he would need to go up the dmc to get to gers anyway, bit more direct, get to the top, go left and schuss.

There is heaps of snow at the moment, and unless there is the hairdryer wind it will stay until 1st feb, lots of skiing outside flaine, which often can be better as less busy. as ianbradders, states more than enough

You can get to Gers from the top of the drag that goes left off the tourmaline blue going into flaine, it serves a red and a black, but you can also go over the back into gers, just need to be a good off piste skier and need beeper etc as can be prone to slip.

The area under the Aup de Veran was closed for two days this week for installation of the new cable. Pretty sure they want it open way before half term. Nonetheless very quiet and great skiing up there while the a de v is closed.

carroz, The drag you are referring to off Tourmaline was closed on Sunday, apparently because the cable had snapped. Don't know if it has been repaired yet.

Chris Mason, carroz, Went past it Friday 20th and looked like it had snapped, buttons were lying on the ground. Agree about the drag, it goes up at 60 deg's, also saw an avvy rescue there a few years back. All the lifties with dogs etc. Also saw the new cable for Aup de Veran being installed, the red that runs from the top station was closed for that.
