Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Train questions

Looking at getting the train, down for a break in Les Arcs, I am obviously too late for ski train booking, so I want to know the cheapest way to buy tickets, and any advice about going through Paris etc.

Ian guessing there is already a thread somewhere but couldn,t locate it.

Get your Eurostar tickets on the Eurostar site, then the French tickets at www.sncf.com . Then get RailEurope or similar to quote the whole trip as well. Can be a surprising difference in price - not always consistent on which is cheaper either.

In Paris, you need to change from Gare du Nord (Eurostar) to Gare de Lyon for day-time trains or Gare d'Austerlitz for overnight trains. It's easy enough on the Metro, but not outrageous in a taxi either, especially if there's 2 or 3 of you.

Not sure if you'd prefer to go direct with eurostar but I booked early and managed to get overnight return tickets to Bourg St Maurice from London for £169 for 27th Jan. Its the cheap seats and non-transferable but for that price its worth a little discomfort. Also, there's no airport transfer to shell out for! Smile

Simplest way is use http://www.tgv-europe.com/en/ which is the French SNCF site for UK residents. You can book the whole journey London to Bourg and pick the time and price that suits you. NB Untick direct routes only and put GB in as the tickt collection country. They allow an hour to cross Paris, which is plenty if the trains are on time. I had a two hour train delay once and lost the Eurostar connection, but the Eurostar ticket office in Gard Du Nord put me on the next available Eurostar at no charge when I showed them my TGV ticket.

Tickets will be posted to a UK address for free within 2-3 days. You pay in euros so you will save 2-3% if you have a card that gives you commercial exchange rate.

Don't use any TGV-europe or SNCF website in French as you will get stuck when you try to pay with a UK credit/debit card.

TGV Europe no longer posts tickets as far as I can work out. We purchased some tickets recently and you have to print them out at home.

I have booked two separate through journeys to Bourg in the past month and both times the tickets were posted to me in the UK within a few days.

You have to use the English language version of the TGV website and specify that the tickets are posted to Great Britain. Just follow the link I posted above.

AndrewsPeppers - I booked through the english site yet when I had selected my tickets it only offered the print at home version. You are right it does say they can send tickets to you as well but I didn't seem to be given this option in the booking. Never mind. Hopefully my printed at home tickets will be fine!
