Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Skiing related questions i've always wondered about ?

Feel free to add answers or more questions that you feel embarrassed that you dont know Smile

Are there any differences in bindings for slim piste skis compared to fatter off piste skis ?

What is a "wiggly" ?

Why are DIN settings for some manufacturers' bindings different to others ?

How much difference to the performance.handling of a ski depends on whether the ski boot is fully centred on the ski (e.g. typically ski hire shops adjust bindings purely by moving the rear part of the binding ?

At what pont in a trun to you plant your pole and why ?

Good luck ...

under a new name is entirely correct if you measure the absolute force given to release a binding. But the retention characteristics of different bindings differ in the degree of elasticity (play) can take place before the binding starts releasing.

At the end of the turn - as a trigger to transition.

The shorter the turn the more important is the pole plant. In very, very short turns (short swings and jump turns) the pole plant provides a reaction moment and/or support.

In high speed performance terms the pole plant acts as nothing more than a timing trigger and becomes a "pole tap".

For most people the ramp angle is more important.

FlyingStantoni, I am skeptical as to how different binding release settings are...mine have always been on 6.5, or 8.0 or something there abouts...

I think my point is that the difference between 6.5 and 8.0 is not going to be forensically material after a broken bone??

sev112, Don't feel stupid for asking these type of questions, we were all there once!

A wiggly is a dance that is done by the guests to their chalet maid on the first night, and its highly offensive if you dont take part. The style of dance depends on which country your in. In Italy, you take your salopettes off but leave your boots on, in Austria you leave your skis and boots on, but take your top off and dance to the Conga. Now France is where things really get interesting. You take your salopettes off and leave your underwear on, you put your bobby hat and your left ski glove on and strut around the living room of the catered chalet to the beat of Micheal Jacksons "beat it".

I'm not sure on the other questions, I'm still learning myself. Hope this helps, cheers

under a new name, I ski on DIN 8 on Look bindings.

Dynafit bindings have absolutely zero elasticity and I have to ski them on 6 or 7 to not feel that my tendons are being ripped out of my leg on release.

Salomon bindings, however, always seem to front-eject me, so I have to turn up the heel to 10 (leaving the toe at Cool. I've always hated Salomon bindings off-piste for this reason.

I'm sure someone better qualified will be able to explain...

Certain bindings designed specifically for wider skis (eg Rossignol Axial2) have a slightly wider screw patterm to let the binding cope with the increased torsional loads.
