So, the holiday is booked for early April. Ski Gear all hired & bought. The dilemna we have is, Do we put the girls through a beginners day to get them slope ready in the UK or wait till we are in Chamonix??? There are 4 of them ranging from 9 to 18. I have already made enquiries in Cham about lessons which we will go through with anyway, but i'm just thinking spending a complete day in Hemel Snowdome getting them pretty much ready for the real thing will just make our time with the instructor in France more fruitful. Ive only Skied once myself in Bulgaria, but i had 2x3 hour lessons with a great teacher by the end of it i was doing fine. As its the girls first time, im just thinking if they have spent a day doing the basics and getting used to the slidey stuff then it would be money well spent?
Any thoughts Snowheads...
BTW, im in West London so can do either HH or MK, what are opinions on both?

I did a "learn to ski in a day" course at MK before going out to the Alps for the first time, I think the day in MK was time and money well spent. Haven't been to Hemel so can't comment on that.
As an absolute beginner, you're going to be concentrating very much on the weirdness of it all and generally not falling over, so I doubt you'll really miss much by not being in the mountains.
Also consider the higher probability of being taught by a mother tongue English-speaker in MK fridge.
Final advice: try and book it as close to the actual trip as possible, less chance of forgetting what they've learned!

Get as much time in the UK as possible, whether that is in a snow dome or on a dry slope. E.g. if the dry slope is nearer and cheaper and so you'll go twice as often I'd choose that.
There are two schools of thought with when to book lessons in the UK: (1) as close to holiday as possible so it is all fresh in your mind (as ap96 says); (2) a month or two before so if you injure yourself in the lesson you will have a chance to recover before the holiday.

The risk of an injury is pretty low, other than bruises and a few aching muscles!
I'd say definitely get some lessons in the UK first, will get so much more out of the holiday.
