Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

The road in Japan with 56 feet of snow on it..

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Yes yes, we know the story, and we've seen this picture, wrongly attributed to Austria at the weekend by the Daily Fail.

Here's the article about the real road:

http://whyevolutionistrue.wordpress.com/2010/12/29/so-you-think-you-have-snow/

But someone has pointed out to me that the first photo is different to the others because the centre line is a broken white line, not a solid yellow line, which roads in Japan have.

But they are driving on the left, so where IS that road in the original photo? Is it a photoshop?

 Obviously A snowHead isn't a real person

The centre line in Japan is similar to in the UK in that it's broken when overtaking is permitted, and solid when it isn't. (Although overtaking when the snowbanks are that high would be a pretty risky manoeuvre!)

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

I thought I'd better self-moderate my Glencoe road post although as that picture has made FB labelled Les Arcs, St Anton & Zermatt already & who knows where else in the papers & ski forums, it would probably have been believed by someone. Cool

The way the trees adjacent to the road are sitting above the snow makes me think that something is not right with that photo...

Part of the apparent depth of the snow will be caused by the snowploughs blowing snow sideways to open up the road, building up levees of snow either side of the road. But Japan gets a lot of snow so I don't think those photos are the result of some clever photoshopping.

Some more details including a video here.

Reminds me of Western Norway in the snowapocalypse years of the early 90's; driving around I was wondering why there were so many window cleaners in Norway since every car had a 2-stage 4m ladder on its roof. Little did I know it was to to get out of the road to go skiing Little Angel

This story is doing the rounds, made it to the Austrian news website, video shows very briefly how they clear the road.
