Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Buying Boots this evening - Pointers Please?

wigan, absolutely nothing wrong with your approach. I always think that Decathlon is a good place to look for a first pair of boots on the same basis - you can pick something up way better than hire boots for about £120-140.

Boardban, there's nothing wrong with S&R, except that it can be so hit and miss. I think that they often put people in boots that are slightly too big because it provides instant comfort. I've got personal experience of that.

In general, the closer you get to a "performance fit" then the less you can expect boot fitting to be a one hit process.

At the end of the day it's a choice that you have to consciously make. Do you want instant comfort with the risk that the boot will pack too much. Or do you want the absolutely best performance, but risk it taking 20-odd skiing days for the boot to bed in.

I ski 40-50 days a year outside and another 10+ indoors every year, so in principle I'm prepared to accept the latter. I fully understand why that wouldn't acceptable if you're doing a one week trip.

CEM asks what type of fit you want.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?
