Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Reccomend boyfriend and I ideas for a short ski/board break please!

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Hello!
Boyfriend and I are looking for a short ski break to get away from it all (and do our relationship some good therefore!)
It needs to be very cheap obviously!
It needs to be close for easy and cheap transfer from airport,
resort needs to have easily accessible slopes (not ski in ski out just good lift from village etc) so we don't waste time
Needs to be reds and a few blacks for our ability range.
Needs to be on weekdays so i don't need time off job at Maplin!

Any help would be MUCH appreciated as we are a bit overwhelmed... he's always gone on uni trips and mum's always planned mine! eek!

crazy_skier_jules, Many Tour Operators do last minute deals, but they tend to be week long Sat to Sat or Sun to Sun, though still might be worth looking to see if they do any reduced shorter breaks.

One option would be to look for cheap weekday flights on lines such as Easyjet or BMIBaby, and then look on the internet for B & B accommodation for the number of days you are looking for. One good such site for Austria, Southern Germany and parts of Italy is www.tiscover.com - you could get a flight into Innsbruck or Salzburg and if you pick a resort easy to get to by train the transfer wouldn't be a problem. I don't know of similar a similar website for France, but you could try the individual resort tourist offices websites.

crazy_skier_jules, drop DallyPaul a PM. He and Nina run a B&B in Morzine and you can arrive and depart any day you like. Lovely people, nice accommodation and short walk, flat walk to/from the Super Morzine lift and town.

DallyPaul can sort you transfers, etc.

Lots of flights to/from Geneva. 75-90 minute transfer.

plus one for Mountainsun, does everything you ask, I thought the Chalet was a bit basic, but food was good and room was clean. It was pretty cheap as well.

crazy_skier_jules, I used Flybe from Southampton to Chambery, PG picked me up but took train/taxi back from Bourg to Cham and stayed in a 2* hotel in Piesey-Vallandry (at the end of Les Arcs) a few years ago.
The hotel accepted mid week arrival / departure and a single occupancy with only a small supplement. Because they weren't fully booked. They might do something sensible again for you...

See here for trip report and details but bear in mind it was 6 years ago. http://snowheads.com/ski-forum/viewpost.php?p=91164
Believe Will no longer has the Flying Squirrel.

+1 for this it is easy to get a flight to Geneva from Leeds/Brad and 1.5 hrs transfer. Morzine with access to the full PdS area would be a great place to do a mid week and quiet. We used Ridge hotel for the same sort of service but if DallyPaul is snowHead then use him it will be just like your mum doing it.

email the tourist infomation centres in some of the Austrian resorts. There is a great hostel not far from St Anton. Relatively cheap and flexible on stay duration. Budget airline to anywhere nearby and a hostel stay is perfect. Cheapness is relative in the Alps though but the euro has dipped a little in value against the gbp but its still not like the good old days.

rumdiary, good idea. There's also some sort of hostel thing in Bourg - accessible by snowtrain. Sorry, can't remember details but PG was looking at it as a possible base for a bash in the days when ....

Samerberg Sue would be a good person to talk to. I remember a very cheap pension just outside of Ellmau in austria. Easyjet to Sburg. Train to St Johan in Tirol and there are dozens of cheapish places around there that the tourist offices will point you in the direction of.

crazy_skier_jules, The Melezes is on its own and a long way from any party scene. A great ski base, but you will be staying in! It is great value though.

Have a good reputation on snowHead s, I have not stayed with them but the area is good and Austria is certainly cheaper than the major French resorts. Short transfer from Salzburg if you can conveniently fly there.
