I'm not sure that I agree with this female ski guru's comments that women have not been able to ski well for over 30 years due to equipment being designed for men, I've known plenty of really good female skiers in that time, of course that doesn't mean they wouldn't have been better if they'd had more specialist equipment better suited to them but the same could be said of many male skiers, we have over the years all gained from development work done by the ski companies

D G Orf, Jeannie's focus is the "average" athletic woman who struggles with skiing, usually due to body shape issues.
I've been studying a lot about balance this season, and can say that most of us would ski better with custom balance work. I have had some done, but have a number of modifications that I plan to make either this spring or over the summer before next season to help me better balance (mentioned in another thread, my feet are short relative to my leg length, which means that I need a shallower ramp angle than the 3-3.5 degrees that are typical).
Jeannie's work was a precursor to this idea, I think.
Our bodies are amazingly adaptive, but that adaptation usually limits performance. The challenge in skiing (as in other sports activities) is to create the best possible starting position to allow for the broadest performance range possible.

ssh if were going to talk about adapting equipment to suit the individual then yes I'd have to agree that it will make a difference, what I was trying to say before was that a lot of the understanding about the different balance points and so on and the way they effect sporting activities has only come about in the last 10 or so years, Jeannie seemed to be implying that women have been hard done by as far as skiing goes for the last 30 years when that simply is not the case as the development work in the field had not even been thought about at that time, in recent years there has been more work which is why there are now skis and boots made specifically for the female market, however in the end it will always come down to how much time the person, male or female, is prepared to spend getting their equipment just right for themselves.
Thus I do not think her argument is all that accurate, or maybe it just has a bit to much pro feminist slant on it

D G Orf, she is a bit of a marketing person, but you need to know that she was a voice crying in the wilderness for a long, long time. If Ott happens into this thread, he may have more comments; he knows Jeannie pretty well, as I understand it from various EpicSki threads...

More power to her, I just don't like it when people say things have not been fair for x amount of time when in fact the means of measuring that fairness etc has only been arround for say x/2 amount of time. Or to put it another way its all very well to say we need to be accurate to the nearest thou of an inch but it's not much good if your measuring device only goes to 16ths of an inch

Ski equipment designed for men....
In my experience the one piece of ski equipment designed specifically for men is the wallet!
The purse on the other hand never seems to fulfill the same function.

I've been skiing on women specific skis since I bought my first pair a few years ago....have just replaced them with "mens" skis and I find my new ones absolutely great! The only real drawback is the weight... my old ones were light as feathers compared and I really struggle to carry the new ones around. Unfortunately Mr HH doesn't believe in carrying ladies skis for them!!
