Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Knee supports?

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Any good? Worth having.? I recently (October) managed to crush my leg between a livestock trailer and the tow hitch on the car, at the time the bruising was above and below my knee, femur and calf, although it was my knee that had twisted, and was told it would take 6 weeks to heal, it did! New years eve, after much wii lets dance! Toofy Grin inside my knee feels tender, and has got me thinking should I get a support as I am skiing next week, I would rather prevent any hurty knee if possible, but have no idea if supports really help, thanks snowHead

Yes they add support just as per the description, I wear one bought over the counter at chemist, mine is extra thick and labelled for right knee and has been a god send. Word of warning tho, IF your doc has advised you not to ski but your using a support so you can anyway it is a bad idea! My sister did exactly that and has just had a second reconstruction! Also, wearing a support does not mean your invincible, you will still need to ski carefully, maybe focus more on good technique this trip rather than going for maximum adrenalin? Very Happy Have a great time. We are off this saturday too, can't wait!!!

My friend, who is a doctor, and who also knacked his ACL last year reccomends these:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/MEDICAL-PATELLA-SUPPORT-breathable-design/dp/B001M04WVK/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1326202771&sr=8-1&tag=amz07b-21

He reckons he wouldn't have done the damage that he did, had he been wearing them - needless to say, I now sport a rather fetching pair in blue, wehenever I ski.

My friend now snowboards, because he reckons there is less chance of doing damage to his knees again that way.

Forced into boarding. A sobering thought for us all to bear in mind when considering the purchase of knee supports...

LukeRibs, that "brace" is about as much good as a chocolate soldier in a desert! Sorry, but your friend is obviously not an specialist if they believe that would have prevented an ACL rupture.

feefee, get a physiotherapist to evaluate your knee and advise you. The best bet is to warm up gently and stretch properly before haring off down the hill. The physio could also provide you with some lengths of tubigrip in the correct elasticity to help keep your knee warm. Be prepared to use ice in the evenings but then it gets you out of fighting your way to the bar, so maybe it is not a bad thing. Laughing

Samerberg Sue, Agree 100%.

feefee, Good work sir, but don't be complacent. I'd still get it checked out, if only to ensure insurance coverage.
