Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Moutiers to Les Menuires

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Hi all,

New here. Going to Les Menuires on Friday (arriving Saturday).

Could someone let me know whether the road from Moutiers up into the mountains is normally gritted/passable or will I need to get the chains on once off the motorway?

Have seen the forecast for Friday and Saturday, hence the question!!

Thanks

Gary

Welcome to snowHeads . The road to Les Men from Moutiers is kept pretty clear. You should carry chains but you may well find you don't need to put them on. If heading beyond Les Men to Reberty (where I am sitting at the mo ...) you'll probably need snow chains if you are not on winter tyres. The road past LM gets less traffic and snow can build up.

Thanks. We'll be stopping by the Bruyeres hi speed lift.

I will have chains with me, nothing worse than trying to go somewhere but the tyres wont grip Smile

The slopes look good at the moment and getting better towards next weekend. Very Happy

By the Bruyeres hi speed lift. Sounds like Ski Amis or the adjacent hotel. I was in the Alps 90 days last year moving around between resorts. I stayed there 1 week in January. Then when the snow started melting everywhere in the Alps I returned for 2 and half weeks in late March. Position, position, position, come out of the elevator and a few steps to the loading station. One lift and you are in Val Thorens. Same lift and you are into the Meribel Valley.

As a single, I don't like being the first to book into a chalet. You can end up having to move chalets or resorts so that you are not the only unwanted guest.. I haven't booked Les Bruyeres yet but may go there on 28 Jan or 4 Feb. Yep, I'm doing 90 days again, maximum allowed without getting a formal visa if you are from Oz.

GaryCantley, erm, about probably not needing to put your chains on ... http://www.j2ski.com/snow_forecast/France/Les_Menuires_snow.html . I think it may be worth a wee practice after all!
