Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Stolen Skis, Tignes . . .

Cynic, a determined thief will steal skis no matter what you do, but I think a big lock is better than nothing. I'd imagine most opportunist thieves don't carry around bolt cutters.

The small cable locks are easily snipped, they're just good to stop people walking off with your skis by mistake.

I don't leave my skis anywhere I can't see them, especially in France.

Now that I'm a ski bum I don't like to waste my beer money buying stuff on the slopes so I take sandwiches with me and it isn't a problem...

Don't leave your skis unattended in France, I know loads of people who have had them nicked.

I've had much the opposite, very rarely have I heard of anyone getting their skis nicked and never friends or family in the last 20 years. I always splits with my instructor or brother or whoever I'm with though, recommend that practice to absolutely everyone, hire skis or not, wherever you are. Just get into practice with it and you shouldn't have to worry about it.

Sorry to hear you lost your skis Sad

Jakejenks, we've certainly had reports of other thefts on snowheads - for example admin's Pocket Rockets - and there was even one theft reported from a balcony.

Ive had 7 weeks on the snow (I know not much compared to some) but I have never locked my gear up when leaving outside mountain restaurants or bars in town, however this thread being brought up might be a strange omen as my mate bought a lock from Brighams last week to use this year wink

To those who do not think to worry about crappy rental skis: The shops I have hired from have had a standard replacement cost that you must pay if you lose your skis. 400Euro for a bashed up pair of skis is a high price to pay. This only applies if you have not taken out insurance with the shop.

And sometimes even if you have... when you discover the insurance only covers you up to €400 and the shop says "the retail price of those skis is €600".

bad luck! I had a pair of brand new Salomon Enduros that I was testing nicked from club med in Tignes last year. I only put them down for a minute. Luckily I'd taken out insurance and only had to pay €190 excess which I successfully claimed back from Amex Travel Insurance so I wasn't out of pocket at all - oh, except for the afternoon spent reporting it down at Tignes-le-lac.

I went back to the shop and bought another pair of the skis, and 2xlocks. This year I have a bike lock for at least one of them.

IncogSkiSno, bad luck, I had locks on my mind as have new skis and just mounted expensive touring bindings yesterday and I'm off to St Anton in two weeks time. Previously someone took my hire skis from outside KK also. Having read the thread seems a cable lock will be better than retractable ones, will get one so I can enjoy my drinks.
