Aren't some snowHeads still in Tignes?
That can be a tricky evacuation depending on where the cablecar came to a stop. I was there in 2003 (ish?) when it derailed and got stuck fast (I was on the last ride up before it failed) and it took about 4 hours to winch people out one at a time.

I really do fail to see why one stuck lift in one resort in France can be extrapolated to the whole of the Alps....

That sounds like no fun at all. We give people free hot drink if they're stuck on a lift for more than about half an hour (can't remember exactly). Wonder what you get for four hours in a cablecar?

Lizzard, if it's the same as it was when I was there in 2003 you get exactly nothing.

yeah i have to agree with Rob...not exactly curtains for the Alp's though certainly a memorable evening for those aboard - the lifties are professionals so hopefully a good ending. fingers crossed!

OK so my French isn't brilliant but I'm sure it says no one is hurt. Thankfully. Yes four hours stuck in any form of lift is an inconvenience in the extreme (I sincerely hope no one peed out of the window!), but in the grand scheme of Alpine disasters this seems relatively minor to me.

When I was in Argentiere in January '10 half our party got stuck in a cablecar for about 3 hours on our last day. Had to delay the coach leaving, fortunately managed to get a later ferry.
Fortunately I decided to do another couple of runs on a different run instead of going up with them or I'd have been there too!
queen bodecia, would you rather they p!ssed in the lift?

Indeed! A mate I was training with that week was on the cablecar and was one of the last winched out. Said it was quite an experience, including the ride on the back of a piste basher back to the funicular. He's turned it in to a great anecdote

Well... My 'ex' OH texted me this evening saying she'd just been rescued by rope - she went first, apparently - I assumed it was an exercise!
LOL! Just looked, she says in previous text 'other lift has come off its rails'..
They were winched down all fine, and skidued to top of Fenicular, where they waited for sufficient people to make it worthwhile running a train down.. apparently

Blimey! It was pretty windy yesterday and when I took it up after lunch I remember it arriving at the top station with a bit of a clatter on the "arm" things that guide it in.

But even though it was a nasty event and I am pleased everyone is ok, the title of this thread does not tell you anything. Just a way of getting people to click on the link to see what it is about. It works I guess, but rather annoying. There is another post about this with the correct title I have already read on the season thread. Tignes is just one place in the Alps and we have all seen this type of problem before and it is sure to happen again. I just hope not to me as I would think so do many others.

Had another text to say she got back to their hotel at 7:15, although was first to be winched off there were another 39 after her. Wasted day for them yesterday - didn't ski.
Resort has handed out a free 'day passes for two' (perhaps amongst other things - not sure) for the hassle - bargain.

Which one?
I'm equally annoyed at such vague (and sensationalistic) titles. Still, a quick scan I couldn't find the other thread.
