Poster: A snowHead
|
Hi Guys - my first post so I do apologise if the question has been asked before!
I have been using the Contour helmet cam and generally find it does the job well, but was wondering if anyone has experience with the Liquid Image Summit goggle camera.
On paper it looks like a brilliant idea, but I'm not sure about the quality of lens, the weight / bulkiness or their ease of use with a helmet.
Any ideas or practical experience?

Obviously A snowHead isn't a real person

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

i have one and the footage isn't bad for this type of camera, they are shortly about to release a full 1080p version which will knock the price of the earlier one back a bit. The in goggle display does get in the way a little and the flashing lights whilst initially annoying very soon get ignored. My biggest problem with these over the other pov cameras is that they are only useful when worn. With the other cameras you can change the mounting position or just put them on the snow/table or carry with a hand mount. Good but a product that in isolation has some flaws in my view, which is just that my view.

Thanks for the information - very helpful what you have to say and some footage as well. Much as I thought in that they have some limitations. Very interesting that they are releasing a 1080p version. As you say this may lead to a price drop for the originals, so I will hang off buying them for a while to see what develops

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

I find the goggle eyeline POV very boring in that you can't see either the skier or skis in the shot. The chest mounted position eg. GoPro is much more interesting showing skis and pole plants to get a more dynamic view of what is happening. Plus you can't do rearward facing shots which can also be a lot of fun e.g. filming a rooster tail of fresh powder while cutting through a tight tree line with your mates close behind. In short I think it's very limiting having the camera lens built into your goggles.

Looks good but too limiting with just the one viewpoint. Going to stick with the gopro & the different mounts providing different recording angles.
