Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

I have noticed that this site does go down from time to time but they are usually fairly quick in getting it fixed (same or next day). If you still need your webcam fix (and to see if snow is still there wink ) then this site has a few views:

Still plenty of snow though would be nice for a bit of snow fall. I've had three gorgeous days skiing here this week, don't think I've ever seen conditions so good.

The end of a long week. The conditions are still brilliant in Val d'Isere - there was some high thin cloud all over the area this afternoon so there is definitely a change in the weather coming.

Took a nice trip up the Aigee Rouge in Les Arcs this morning with the clients... after a few shakey moments they got themselves in the zone and skied it very well indeed.

This afternoon I was waiting for our clients and was noticing the various postures of people skiing by - it is quite incredible how it all varies:

It is no wonder that there are so many skiing 'styles' observed... which posture do you think is the best and worst?

There seems to be quite a lot of army personnel around in resort at the moment which makes things interesting when they have absolutely no control and are throwing themselves down anything that comes their way.

I am expecting a change in the weather to be in the air when I wake up tomorrow morning but I am looking forward to tomorrow as I have a day off - first time this year when I will not ski at all / drive anywhere - looking forward to a day off - plenty of things to get done so no real lie in for me.

Friday I am supposed to be teaching off piste snowboarding all day - should be interesting if the weather closes in!

the middle posture reminds me of the clip from Monty Python and the Holy Grail which laundryman posted on the "pressure selling" thread on the Apres Zone yesterday. John Cleese on an imaginary horse.

THE SNOW IS COMING ...

The thin high cloud from yesterday built as the day progressed and in general the clouds made for quite a lot of flat light skiing (I had a day off snow but Clare reliably informed me that conditions were not as good as they have been visibility wise).

The radar and forecasts are still pushing for a good 20cm's of snow to come our way over the next 24-36 hours - personally I don't think it will be that much but we shall see. I think we are just going to get the tail end of the low pressure system that is passing and the intensity therefore level of snowfall will be minimal.

However what is good is that with the new pressure system coming through temperatures were a little warmer today so I was actually able to venture outside without having to wear 20 layers.

Looking back to the posture thing above - the kid actually has the best posture out of the lot of them - adequate ankle and knee flex (unlike the adults above him) - the only downside is excessive hip flex... lack of ankle flex is SUCH a common error in most skiers.. without ankle flex it is nearly impossible to 'lean forward' and find the middle of the ski effectively. Anyway I agree the guy in the second photo - probably from Paris and probably so casual at skiing that he lacks any sort of ski performance!

Should be an interesting day tomorrow as I am supposed to be off-piste so with some fresh snow it could be a fun day - if the visibility plays ball!

Ohh yes one other thing... on another note.. we still have 11-18th February available in our little chalet - 2 bedroom, 2 bathroom - if anyone knows of anyone that is still looking for HT - ironically apart from end of April it is the only week we have left to sell in the whole season... so please pass the word on if anyone you know if is still to book - THANK YOU.

ITS SNOWING AGAIN ...

Looks like about 2-5cm has fallen overnight down here in town (enough to cover car windscreens - not much extra). But it looks like the wind has increased. Visibility wise I can't see any higher up the mountain than about half way up the Bellevarde.

Weather forecast supposed to deteriorate as the day goes on. A total of around 30cm now forecast before tomorrow morning dawns... maybe it will be a noteworthy fall of snow after all.

So the roads once again could be tough going on Saturday!

Piccadilly Thanks - I had a great day off... no news yet on the phone front. Been a little tied up with other stuff - still on the 'must do' list. Watch this space. When I remember I am taking my UK Iphone up the hill with me as that takes some pretty good photos!

Still snowing and very windy. Solaise express was shut when I got there about 10:00,. Chatting to someone who said it was very windy and horrible at the top. Never actually got skiing as my daughter had a fall in her lesson and piste security took her to the medical centre, expensive bruised shoulder! Olympique cable car now shut as well. Looking at the snow on the tables outside the sun bar I reckon there's been at least 10cm.

binkacat, definitely - I'm sure the resort won't be as affected by the last storm (all main lifts were shut) but even if it is the lifts in the village will open first thing so go for a play on the nursery slopes with her at least.

Sad that's sad. It was very bad luck that that happened in a lesson. I hope she's OK tomorrow.

(My daughter used to be a right wimp. She was moaning about her arm one night, having fallen off her bike. When I eventually took her to A & E it turned out to be a fracture. Embarassed Bad mummy. But as you've already been to the medical centre, that shouldn't happen to you. BUT, having had quite a hurty shoulder after a big snowboard crash, I do remember that it was a lot more sore the following day, so you might have your work cut out getting her back out in the snow. Especially if the weather is nasty.

HOWEVER just wanted to let everyone know that it snowed all day yesterday (with some high winds unfortunately) and has continued all night... there is now well over a foot of snow down here in the village. Looking out the window now it is still VERY heavy snowfall.

It will be a long day on the road!

Still snowing. Got out for first lifts this morning and the solaise express, belvarde express and olympique cable car didn't open till about 10:00am. I think they were shut due to blasting, there was lots going on and saw an avalanche come down the Face. Loads of people waiting, I managed to get on the second chair of the solaise express. Got to the top and other lifts and runs there were shut apart from the black and red back down. So did the red back, piste m? Deep powder which I'm not used to but good.

At lunch time there still wasn't much open. Was looking at the board at the rond posted and stuff on thebelvarde side such as borsat express was shut. Most of the chairs on the solaise side were still shut. Loads of people skiing down The Face and the runs down to La Daille were open.

Hubby has gone out now while I baby sit the injured one! It's still snowing but lighter now.! Home tomorrow. Crying or Very sad

Yesterday was a fun but frustrating day

FUN as I was off piste all day and managed to find some good snow and sheltered snow at that.

I started with a little trip down the Valley Perdue... if you have never done it before then think Indiana Jones and the Temple of snow. Deep / steep sided little canyon that makes it way down to La Daille off piste. With the roaring wind which was severe and the onslaught of snow we found shelter down there. It is not really 'skiing' or 'snowboarding' and more of an adventure. This year the normal climb down through the hole in the rock has turned into a crawl through the narrow gap in the rock band above (see photo of Rolly making his way through the hole).

It had been a later than planned start anyway and after the Valley Perdue and a quick warm up at the bottom of La Daille in the fabulous Rosee Blanche it was time for lunch... of course everything was heaving in town and eventually we found a table at Sur La Montange - really nice place in there - had been a while since I last ate there.

By the time we re-emerged after lunch conditions had worsened and much more had shut down meaning that we headed for the Fornet. The plan has been to go up and do one of the colouirs off the Pyramid Express but the deep snow, wind and a white out meant we changed our mind and simply did the Fornet trees which (as always) were exceptional.

FRUSTRATING as during apres (had a fun few drinks before my mate went home and also with the clients from today) my snowboard was stolen from outside the Alexandra Bar - grrr.

By the time I headed home the snow was really pelting down.... and so it would continue like that all night long.

Not a bad transfer day after a sketchy start

I had brought the transfer time forward by an extra couple of hours as I thought the road was going to be awful. So at 4am the alarm went off. There had been an awful lot of snow over night - perhaps 50cm or so, down here in town. Even at that time in the morning there was carnage all over the place:

A lorry got stuck in the snow even before dawn had broken over Val d'Isere.

After putting chains on, collecting our chalets guests it was time to hit the road. I expected it to be dreadfully slow down to Bourg St Maurice and onwards. It was and took an hour and a half (yes I know in the grand scheme of things that is not too bad but still it was slow going). Anyway we got down without incident and things should have started moving a little faster after the chains came off............................................................

......................... but somehow between Bourg and Moutiers a couple of horses had escaped from somewhere and were lose on the road... could you believe it. Well it took a while of a line of cars following these horses - a little bit like chase in their eyes (although we were hardly chasing them)... after a while they would cross over to the other side of the road and start coming back the other way... then changing their minds. Anyway I am not sure what happened to them in the end as they galloped past us going in the other direction and that was the end of that as far as we were concerned. I never seem to have much luck on this stretch of road as a few years ago in the Summer a canoe fell off of the roof of a car in front and narrowly missed my car!

The rest of the journey there and back (thank goodness) went smoothly.

It continued to snow ....

as I got back into town this evening.

in fact it is still snowing out there now - the wind dropped off somewhat (although is still going).

The rest of the week should be brighter - we shall see.

Apologies for being a little slack the last 24 hours keeping the news up to date... things have settled down a little out here now and I should be back into a normal routine from tomorrow onwards - YAY!
