Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Intermediate Ski

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Hi there, hope you are OK.

I am an Intermediate skier, always hired Skis and now looking to step into the breach and by my own pair.

I was wondering, does anyone have any recommendations on any worthwhile purchasing. Mainly for piste use, but hope to be brave enough to venture off at some point.

Ive been eyeing these up, http://www.sailandski.co.uk/acatalog/Salomon_Enduro_XT800_Skis__Z12_Bindings_2012.html any thoughts?

Thanks for your help.

You'll likely be advised to head down to your nearest fridge and demo some skis..

Might be worth determining what sort of skier you are, i.e. fast and aggressive or a piste cruiser. Where is your skiing experience (guessing just a piste skier at present) Also, are you tall/short, heavy/light etc, will help people offer a more informed decision when it comes to determining the best options for you. Wink

In my opinion, the skis in the link provided look pretty good, if a little costly for your first pair of skis.. The waist of the ski is probably wide enough for hopping in the powder between pistes so not a bad option. Like I said though, best to try before you buy if you have the option.

Slightly cheaper (no poles) http://www.sportabilityuk.co.uk/salomon-enduro-xt800-skis-inc-z12-bindings-i178.html

3rd in German test

Quote:

Very rough translation =

Positives : good all rounder, easy to turn, good float, all mountain-ski
Negatives : slight weakness with edgegrip and higher speeds

Suspect an intermediate skier would be better off with a piste/carving ski then building up his/her skill set and technique before going to an all mountain ski.

Second the advice to demo a few skis before you buy.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

I tested the Enduro XT 800 and found that it had bulletproof edge grip and handled speed with ease. It's a great carver, but can also produce a wide variety of turns. However, you should be warned that it's a slightly physical ski (nothing dramatic though). Perhaps one of the other Enduros would suit your needs better (LX 800 or RX 800).
